The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Has anyone ever heard that stock turbos have more shaft play than aftermarket ones?

Shaft play seems fairly excessive on mine, but a guy who builds Subaru's at the shop it is at says that it may not be out of the ordinary because it is stock.

Thoughts?

Yes, I stalk UCMp3....Let's just say I linked to a page of your mods and saw some stuff waiting to be installed-the date said 8/8....and it named names....stalkerish? I think so! JK mang

I use a local shop up here who do great work and just down the street and have the shop auto-x so they know what they're doing.

Don't go to Tire Kingdom or NTB. They suck. My friends wheel cam off his VW on the highway because they didn't tighten the lugs, and they "forgot" to align my ex's wheels after installing new tires. Plus many other occasions of suckiness.

Levi, I say iPod integration because I'm picky as hell when it comes to the music I want to listen to. Though Pandora on my phone is really growing on me so maybe Sirius would be nice. But I still opt for iPod. Does Phen have Sirius in the MSM because it always cuts in and out of signal.

I use Conrads in Akron, they do a great job and I save a lot of money on my custome alignments. If anyone is intersted, please let me know.

I got mine stuff aligned after going with lowering suspension in my 626. I went to Garro Tire in Ravenna, and they gave me a spec sheet after it was done, so I know what all my numbers are. Do other shops do this? I wasn't trying to do anything out of the ordinary, but I've been really happy; it tracks straight as an arrow.

considering car manufactures dont build turbos usually, id say out of spec is out of spec. if the shaftplay is to bad it will hit the compressor housing on any turbo.

Car manufacturers don't build the turbos in their cars (I'm sure there's an exception somewhere). It's usually a turbo made by a reputable company like garrett. Your turbo doesn't have a higher or lower chance of being bad due to it being stock or not.

its funny what "perfomance" shops will tell people isnt it?

Haha yea it sure is. Kind of sad really. I still have a lot to learn but I remember when I would easily be convinced by things like that...

Most places should give you the spec sheet when you're done. I go to Leipold Tire in Stow and they are great guys up there. I actually buy them donuts when I drop off my car I appreciate their work that much. I don't let anyone touch my car, I mean anyone. Haha! And since I don't have a tire mounting machine and balancer (yet) I have to have a shop do it. I just don't trust anyone working on my car other than myself.

Strip the radio and don't look back.

Bold. Very bold. Haha! I don't think I would ever be able to not have music playing. I have music on all the time all day long. I wake up to music on my alarm, listen to headphones and the shop stereo all day at work and go to sleep to soft music on my stereo.

They're really dirty... Didn't get done with everything until close to dark. I'll be washing the car tmrw, then real pics. O ya, and I set the Illuminas to 5 all the way around to keep the rubbing to a minimum. These things are fatties! ;)

Ooooo Black and Blue...
Looks great, similar to the 5zigens you liked and ? lighter ?
And I guessed it--you had it posted in your signature in the link that says "MP3 Mods"

edit: do they make yellow lug nuts? I think yellow G2 brake calipers with yellow lugs (or just black) would look nice when you do the big brakes next year.

I think they'll look much better in natural light without all the flash. I know mine did.

Wow, excellent, I managed to lose both of my card readers. I was gonna show you a pic of my bitchin radio in the Miata, Evan. It's got blueteeth and wifis and everything.

didn't notice the wheels at first...just the rusty rotors. lol
If i can find orange lug nuts, i'm sure someone makes yellow and def g2 paint

I wasn't necessarily convinced, probably more curious. He wasn't really offering professional advise, more personal insight I suppose.

One way I figured it may be remotely true would be based on the order size. Maybe because Mazda ordered a large amount the inspections or specifications were not as stringent because of timing issues? A stretch I know.

Yeah... I'd only ever really believe 50% of the stuff people tell you. Gotta find the good ones to trust.

same with us...no one touches our car...sean does everything
he tried to do his own alignments, but the thing we bought didn't work for us because our garage wasn't level

if we had the money/space, i'm sure he'd have all the stuff to do his own alignments :)

Alignments and jobs that require a press (i.e. wheel bearings) are the only things I don't do myself, simply because I do not have the means to do so.
