MAF relocation w/ Turbolife FMIC

Have any of the Turbolife owners relocated the MAF to the cold pipe? I kinda wanna do it for improved throttle response as many claim, but I feel bad cutting those beautiful single piece pipes :(

Is the throttle response really that much better??

better throttle response from maf relocation? first time i'm hearing of it. i'd never cut my beatiful turbolife pipes

Really? I thought that's why people did it usually. At least that's the reason I always read about on the forums. Well that and to be able to vent their BOVs..
Never say Never, I thought id never cut my mam pipes but its gonna happen.

they are just pipes. i cut up my MAM kit also and i have never looked back.

I cut mine, its worth it if you are running a BOV, if not its not needed.
Why'd you guys all do the relocation? I don't really care about BOVs, I have a GReddy Type S right now but it's relocated and I plan on leaving it that way even if I relocate the MAF.

people do it just to run vta. if you're recirculating, there is no point in doing it

Fair enough. But I could've sworn people always reported better throttle response after relocating as well.

I cut my turbolife pipe, I noticed nothing with relocating but I also did a bunch of other things.

Actually before the rpms used to dip sometimes and a few times it even stalled and I never notice that anymore.

if you dont want to relocate i bet HondaEat-R would do a straight trade with you... his is relocated and wants to switch back to mix it up. PM him, i seriously bet he would do it.
except his is a perrin... dunno if that would put a damper on things in any way.

Good ******* catch, Bryan..

Yes, I would trade you. Let me know.

And, yes, I noticed significantly better throttle response. With the MAF in the stock location, the MAF is several feet away from the throttle body and has several restrictions in-line like the SMIC and turbo, but when you move the MAF to ~ 8 inches from the throttle body the MAF reads changes in air flow due to throttle position that much sooner.

I want to go back to draw through to see how the SS-AFC does with tuning draw through.

Can someone post a pic of the relocation? I want to see where I need to cut the pipe and where to weld the flange. Thanks!

Multiple people have seen better performance and overall drivability with the MAF moved to a blow-through set-up. SR20 guys have been doing this for 10 years+, as have big power muscle cars w/ forced induction set-ups. Tons of professional tuning shops are doing blow-through MAF set-ups too.

Try to tune your MSP w/ draw-through MAF, then try again with it Blow-though MAF. Most have experienced more consistent tunes with Blow-through.

Additionally, with a blow-through set-up you can still drive home if you have a boost leak pre-MAF, you just won't have boost. Whereas w/ draw-through, you'll be calling a tow truck if you can't reach the leak and fix it on the side of the road.

That's why people run blow-through MAF's.

Gospel. Especially the part about the boost leak. I've had intercooler pipes blow and have been able to drive the car home to fix it with the relocated MAF. If the MAF would've been in the stock location, I would've been more screwed.

hONDA EATER IS RIGHT.BLOW A PIPE WHILE DRIVEING AND THE MAF DOESNT READ AIR THE CAR TURNS OFF..HAPPEND TO ME TWICE NO JOKE.

That's just one benefit. As time goes on, we see more and more that blow through MAF's work fine, and pre-mature MAF failure due to this usage is non-existent thus far.

MAF's were not made to see boost, true. But things are going fine, and in many cases, better than fine...

Right on! I will be cutting my turbolife kit on install and cutting my AEM CAI to run a boost sciences RDV. Throttle response, tuning and drivability with a leak are worth it IMO.

P.S. You can drive it draw through with a leak you just have to granny shift to stay out of boost Sux!
