Radar Detectors

Hey guys, i noticed a couple people on the forum have radar detectors in there cars! i had just ordered one, just wondering what is the best placement for it? (at the top of the windshield, the bottom,etc.) also what is the best way to wire it? i know you can originally plug it into your cigarette lighter, but some people hardwire it so there aint that long ugly coord hangin down! (has anyone done this, know how to do it?) thanks!

(please no replys of - radar detectors dont work, there illegal, blah blah blah. where i live they are legal and ive heard good things about them workin! )

If they're legal, just put it in the front of the windshield and hard-wire it to the 12v power for your cig. lighter.

I currently run a V1 radar, and it recommended to place at the top of the windshield. So i have it places to the left of the mirror above my head.. so when it goes off i can just glance up.

I dont have it hardwired yet, just have the wire running along the seems and into the cigarette lighter.. If u place at the top u can hard wire into the dome light assembly.

I don't like mine being on the windshield because of the long wire, so I just have mine under the dash using adhesive velcro and it still works fine.

thanks for the replys guys! hey ucMP3 how did you go about hard wiring it to the cigarette lighter, and Silentwolf85 do you have any How-To's on how to hard wire it to the dome light? i just ordered a hard wiring kit for it, so im definitely going to do it! just looking for the best/easiest way! thanks!

Top of the windshield, wired into the mirror power. It works fine, although when the laser alert goes off, start looking for a place to pull over. As for UNDER the dash - might as well leave it home.

Agreed for under the dash.. why put it there.. doesnt seem like it will pick up lasers and bands while pointing at ur feet or fire wall...



As far as the hard wiring, if u bought the kit it should be pretty easy. Just gunna have to pul the dome lite down, and make sure u run the wires through the ceiling cover, and not over it to get to the wires.. The wiring kits made for radars, SHOULD be just a PNP setup. (limb)

If you mount it @ the bottom of the glass, hard wire it to you cig lighter. There 2 wires coming off the cig lighter, power & ground. Ground wire is black, the other wire is the power. You can just run the wires through your defrost vents; that's the easiest way.

If you mount it @ the top of the glass, hard wire it to your dome light. Same thing as above, there are 2 wires, ground is black, the other is power. Just be careful with your headliner.

I would just mount it @ the bottom of the glass and wire it to the cig lighter, personally. Don't know why you would want the radar detector @ the top of the windshield...

I used a add a circuit and tapped right into the fuse box. I prefer this way so you don't have to cut any wires and it look's very clean.

This is a joke right? Your radar detector is picking up alarms, not police radar. It needs to look out the front window and also out the rear window. Wherever you are comfortable with it being is fine as long as it has clear veiw forward and backward. Under the dash is highly illadvised!

mines hard wired to the lighter and mounted right under my mirror. That way its only on when the car is on. its very easy to tuck the wire in to the headliner and A pillar. I have the remote mute stuck hand level under the steering column next to the center counsel if i need to remove my hand from the shifter to hit mute.

Just being honest with you man...they work, but you're with me in Ohio and here Laser dominates so why waste your money. Buy any one of the top rated laser jammers and call it a day. Radar is still used, but mainly by cops rolling in the opposite direction. Just keep your eyes open, watch for brake lights ahead and combine the jammer with Trapster.

I've had my V1 on the shelf for years and don't miss it nor do I need it.

fuse box is a pain to get to, cig lighter was easier to get to is the main reason i went there.

ok, Im not trying to start a debate on the subject. Im just saying for some reason, my radar stills works just as it would on the windshield. There was absolutely no change in its performance at all.
