Miata Roll Call

Today is my MSM's birthday, so I'm planning a celebration for her later today. Hopefully we can have a celebration at Lime Rock! Haha.

^ what do cosmetic bars do? Are they just for looks? How much do they weigh? Why not just get a real rollbar? All important questions.

Style bars are good for decapitation and other bodily injuries.

You really do ask the stupidest questions on every single forum.

You ANSWERED your whole post in the third word of your question. They are cosmetic, purely there for the sake of looks. Why would they bother to get a real roll bar if they are never going to track the car when they can have somewhat of the same look for $400 dollars less.

Use your brain every once in awhile instead of typing the first nonsense that comes into your head.

My only comment towards your post is that there have been instances where a style bar has caused more injury to the driver in a roll over than they may have sustained in a roll over with out a bar at all.

While I may never track mine, I enjoy the peace of mind I get from a legit roll bar.

/soap box.

no thought what-so-ever was given to debate of whether cosmetic double hoop will cause more damage to me in a flip over or not. Nor was any thought given to what injuries would be sustained in driving a Miata period, with our without any kind of roll bar. Just as no safety thought is given to riding my motorcycles, or climbing mountains, or riding my road bicycles. If I thought those things, I would stay home on my recliner.

so having said that..... it is serving it's purpose wonderfully (I really enjoy the look), and my girlfriend is ECSTATIC about the wind blocker that attaches to it, and now actually enjoys riding in the car. Win win if you ask me.

There is a difference between climbing a mountain, and climbing a mountain with a spike-pit at the bottom to catch you when you fall. But, you know, have fun and don't ever roll the car....

ya there is a big difference, there's also a big difference in the odds of falling wilst mountain climbing and rolling a car on public roads.

Likewise there is a huge difference in the odds of getting injured between my four hobbies. the way i look at i'm much more likely to get injured in my first three hobbies: Road Cycling, Motorcycling, Mountain Climbing than in my fourth, driving a Miata. So the odds of "decapitation" don't even register on my radar screen.

Hey, don't take it personally 5phreak. We're just giving you the heads up (in case you were going to (maybe) track/auto-x it...I guess it will be strictly a cruising car for you & your gf.
For the money however, you get that added saftey via a "real" roll bar over the style bar. It seems you've made up your mind already, but you never know what can happen on a regular ride down the street. Alot of the "old guys" put that style bar on their roadsters for "safety", not realizing its just for "looks". Either way, enjoy your miata & welcome to the forums.

righty-o, I understand, and no worries, I was/am not perturbed by anyone's replies about the bar... I just wanted to make sure everyone knows that I know the inherent risks of the choice (both driving the car to begin with, and installing the bar).

Even if I never track this car (which would be ******* stupid) I'd still want a real rollbar instead of style bars. It's only an extra $200 or less for this:
