Long story short I was burning a little oil. Plugs were shot in cyl 3 & 4. Oil in the cyls. Checked compression, looked fine. No oil in intake or charge piping. Turbo felt fine, no shaft play or oil issues. Assumed it was my valve seals since it mainly smoked upon start up. Pull the head to swap with some new cams and see my #4 piston.. Broken. So has anyone had issues with arias pistons? #3 & #4 have tiny cracks where the valve relief is, and on #4 2 pieces have completely broken off.

About ready to just say **** this car.

edit: linked due to size

Valves look fine, even the cyl walls looked ok. Not the first owner. Now that I have to rebuild this will be this cars 4th engine. I bent a rod, rebuilt and forged it, put maybe 20k on it. Then this. Yay get to blow more money...

Guess I'll go with wiseco/k1 combo this time..

15psi on a disco, afr never got above 12. Typically around 11-11.5, sometimes rich to not register on the w/b.

I ran 15psi on a 30R ran for maybe 3 months and BOOOM!!! same problem, Im on build #2 now.

Edit: Sean what compression you running?

Yea I had all that done 2 years ago when I rebuilt and went forged. It almost looks like the cracks and broken off parts are right where its recessed for the ring where the metal would be thinner and have no support under it.

Tom, I would kl it but its daily driven. I prefer the gas mileage of the fs. Even with bigger turbo more boost and 440's I was still getting 26-29 mpg. Thats about what I got n/a with my other kl's.

wiseco/k1 combo, that's what I'm going to do, never heard of issues with them, Aries I have before heard issues.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. I'd like to see the ring lands on those cracked babies. I'm running ARIAS, and this makes me sad, haha.

Yea I'm afraid to see everything when I get it apart. This threw a huge wrench into my FC build :(

You'll always find someone that broke a rod or piston, regardless of brand. We have no clue why a lot of these failures happened, so it's quite unfair to say one is "better" than another.
Kooldino at one point, wasn't too fond of the K1 rods and Wiseco piston set-up. Why ? No clue. Outlawstar: This is the first issue I have seen with Arias in the FSDE world. I'm willing to bet that with proper install, maintenance, tuning, etc... both setups are created equal, or very very close.
