Im a die hard top gear fan, and its funny to see how almost low budget 5th gear is compared to it.

As far as the review, the hot hatch market in England has alot of contenders, and frankly, the focus RS is the best. Great looks, power and handling. so the ms3 has alot to compete with.

I thought I would see a video of a full throttle run in fifth gear, from about 4k rpm up to 6k rpm (or about 90 to 120 mph) not some promo by a mag editor/reporter that did not understand what our cars are really about. Disappointed.

This review is similar to reviews done by Top Gear magazine online and other US media. Less refined than a GTi (if that matters to you in any way), but massively more fun.

Everywhere I see any kind of GTI vs MS3 comparison the 'GTi is more refined' phrase is always brought up...yet I'm having hard time comprehending what that really means. I've always found that when 2 (or more) similar vehicles are compared, the only way to wage either way is to come up with useless logic to add bonus points to one or the other.

'boring interior plastic'.....ummmm what? does it have the options you like, such as a/c, climate control etc? Yes. Are they easy to get used to and work as they should? Yes...then wtf is the problem. Maybe it's just my point of view, but I rarely get into cars expecting to be 'excited' by their interior. As long as it has all the little goodies that one would like, and the knobs and s*** isn't FALLING OFF, then I say focus where it matters most. Engine, Drivetrain, Suspension.

Her subjective opinion, I could agree with somewhat. Her stats need to be re-checked. I don't think she spent much time with the MS3 past that curvy road.

Good point. All cars in this class are trimmed with plastic dash & console materials. Maybe the key is in the visual appearance & layout that someone subjectively finds more or less "exciting" than another?

I always hear the VW "refinement" argument, too. And I not only don't get it- I disagree, period. I owned a 2001 Golf GLS 1.8T, and I test drve a 2009 GTI before I bought my '09 MS3. The VW interior, IMHO, is spartan and boring. And the seats are narrow & stiff. For me, the interior refinement of the MS3 is part of what swayed my decision.

I guess that just goes to show you- beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So the 2010 has less power and is slower from naught to 60 than the previous gen despite having a 2.5 vs. a 2.3? I LOL'd

Oh, and Top Gear > Sex with farm animals > 5th gear

You must be referring to the standard Mazda 3. The 2010 Speed 3 has the same engine as the '07-'09, and same displacement - 2.3L.

Check out the video - she said it was a 2.5L with 256 horses. Just going by what I heard :D

Yes, watch the video. Despite her credits, she and Fifth Gear botch this review.
