lol bored at work

its not about the equipment. altspace is a great example of what can be done... and I still don't have quite $700 into my kit. I'm not trying to be a snot, but theres a difference between a snapshot, and photography. like most things in life, its the operator, not the equipment that makes the greatest difference.

Calm down. Your pictures aren't much better. Not trying to be a jerk...

I absolutely agree, i've got a long way to go to be anywhere near where most of you are, but through the feedback I've gotten I've already improved a lot of things I was doing wrong. I'm not trying to be an ass, I say this because he was talking about going into photography professionally. If you want to get better, you need to know where you're at compared to where you're trying to go.

He probably doesn't need you to tell him where he's at though. It all goes back to "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything."

I also made this:

if this were a photography forum, someone woulda come strait out and said "don't post that s*** here"... I wasn't aware I was saying something "not nice"...

It's not a photography forum. I'm also a member of a photography forum, and I'd have said the same thing to anyone in there too. There's really no need for comments like that. If you want to say something about his post, say something constructive.

Tell him its underexposed, or to frame the cars differently. Or hey, maybe try the same shot but do it this way.

Ive learned alot just from reading others criticism and suggestions on this and other forums. Any little bit helps.

exactly. Calling someone's pictures "snapshots" doesn't do him any good, and it makes you look like an internet tough guy.

if actual conversation had transpired about the pic I'd hoped thats where it would go. but I'm not going to go giving him a list of "fix its" (lets be honest, even with as little as I know its a list) for the pics right off the bat. with a lot of little changes those shots COULD be very nice... fixing the exposure and white balance would be a good start, and depending what the goal was you could frame it any number of ways..

only from my time on a photography forum did I discover that word was an insult...

I know its very un-original to do a water drop, but I felt like giving it a try.

did you have an elaborate setup for that pic? I've seen some water drop setups that were totally insane. and awesome.

Not at all. This was me just goofing around.

camera
tripod
ir remote
dish of water
and a plastic straw for dripping

You can get pretty elaborate with colored water or colored lights, different liquids, etc.

This is like when you first got your car you did not know s*** about working on your car but you learn after a while and got better at it. That's me with my camera.

exactly. learn by doing. and pay close attention to what you see that you like and figure out what is so appealing about it!

absolutely, and I'd say if you came in here with a riced out, horribly modded car you be flamed, and I doubt anyone would come to your rescue. I was not intending to offend. If I did so I apologize. My point was merely that to come out with a better picture, you need to put more thought into it. thats where I started... stop taking shots of whats in front of you from wherever it is that you are, and think about how you want to make the pic look, control what you can to get it to look that way.
After that you start learning how to fix specific aspects of the shot.. (exposure, white balance, aperture, etc) Maybe you guys have been too good for too long to remember this, or maybe I learn differently, but that was what I meant by "snapshot".

yeah i hear a lotta ppl with focusing issues with the 50mm 1.8, i think its just a bad copy of the lens

dont think so because I have used 4 different ones

i purchased one had the issue, my friend wanted it so i sold it to him and then purchased another one, returned it

then used my brothers, still does it

my daughter has one also and it does the same thing

its not off by a mile but it mis focuses a bit quite constantly, especially in low light
