hello,

i was driving today and performed a u turn and when through 1st and 2nd gears quickly but not squeeling tires and all of a sudden it feels like my traction control kicked in and my car stalled...now it will not crank only the starter solinoid makes noise. no oil leaks and no oil in the coolant...but smoke was coming out of my cobb short ram intake. i have 12 volts at the battery and it drops to 4v when attempting to crank. has anyone experienced this ??? i need help and i dont want to take off all the good stuff to make a dealer visit if i dont need to.

also i tried jumping it and a known good spare key and that didnt help.:'( :'(

Well if the car is trying to turn over and it is not a battery problem it could only be 3 things:

Spark
Fuel
Compression...

Check you plugs first of all (if they are fouled change 'em out.) then turn the car to start and listen for the fuel pump... it will turn on for a few seconds to build pressure... if all else fails... get a compression test done.

CEL?
does it actually crank but doesn't start? do you hear starter or just relay?
if so -> electronics (ignition issue)/fuel delivery
if not -> starter itself/internals

when do you see smoke coming from intake filter?

Based on your description, the engine is toast.

It doesn't crank because of a major mechanical problem (broken rod, seized bearing, etc.)

sounds like some sort of mechanical failure. +1 to the above questions, is the engine physically cranking over? If not then your Zoom-Zoom-Boom club pin should be on it's way shortly.

Any tuning done for your stuff:
turbo xs dp/rp (stealth back)
turbo xs recirc BOV
turbo inlet pipe
cobb sri
cp-e fmic (heatwrapped/treated hot pipes)

That's a lot to be done without a Tune, shocked you didn't have massive fuel cut already, or knock.

why jump to the "engine is toast" line? the way i'm reading it, the starter is throwing out, drawing a s*** tonne of power, and not actually spinning up. Sounds like a busted starter motor (that is the bendex/clutch is stuffed so the starter is spinning but not driving the starter gear, or the armiture is broken and not throwing the starter out onto the flywheel).

Of course, if it SOUNDS like its trying to start (typical startermotor sound), then the culprit would be something else. Check the basics -

check the ignition system (start with the plugs and work back to coils. Check that the plugs are fine, the leads are fine, the coil is fine and is recieving power.).

check the fuel system. Normally i'd start with checking you're getting injector pulse by using a noid light - but DISI would make this pretty well impossible. Check the fuel pump is recieving power and is pumping fuel.

Once you've exhausted those - start looking at more "serious" issues.

no tuning and it runs great...i get boost cut in 5th and 6th at times when i spike about 22 psi but it runs great

saw the smoke as soon as i opened the hood (immediately after pulling over)

If there is a problem with the starter, it wouldn't explain the fact that the engine stalled (while the car was moving) and the smoke coming from the intake (which is obviously a bad sign).

Also, these engines are known to grenade, especially when heavily modded.

How 'bout this: Pull the plugs, pull the passenger side front wheel, undo the splash shield, get a ratchet on the crank bolt and try to turn it over manually? If you can find a buddy to shine a light down the plug holes and look for piston movement you'll know if the rotating assembly is capable of rotating any more. I wouldn't try to force a start until I'd ensured all the moving bits were still attached to and, in time with, one another. If there's a busted rod in there and it hasn't poked a hole in the block, I wouldn't give it the opportunity by spinning it on the starter or under combustion forces. If it passes the bottom end test, you can pull the valve cover and see if the cams appear to be in time with the pistons.

(werd) I wanna know if it still turns...err, turns properly.
