lol kind of ironic, people are afraid of breaking s*** so they stick with the stock turbo, but that is actually what ends up breaking stuff

bigger turbo=safer? i think that would be a relatively accurate statement (w/ supporting engine mods of course)

the MS3 guys experience the same thing... the stress is greater, but for shorter duration if you spool later... and without a physics degree, it seems that duration is more stressful on drivetrain than force applie.

Well believe it or not is true, and the proof is my ride, i dont have anything special or anything nobody elses have or have seen... in here we all have basically the same stuff because all shops and stores sells the same exact stuff...

My engine didn't blew, piston number 1 failed at 400 miles doing the break in. something fail and looks like piston came defective from manufacture that's all. nothing broke, nothing blew. I believe s*** happens. Wossner is a well known Hi performance piston company lots of people in here uses them in their race cars, rallye cars etc. but again s*** happens and no one knows when. but in order not to deal with this kind of s*** again i'm going With Wiseco Custom performance pistons and that's about it I think they are better than Arias atleast what's that they look like.. i will post pics of the failed piston later on today when i get home..

Wiseco are a noisey piston. Wouldn't say they are better than Arias. CP make a nice piston - quiet, light weight, strong as hell.

That is what I have been saying also, not only is a fast spooling turbo hard on the tranny it will/can cause your car to roast the tires when you romp on it in second or third gear. Having alot of power that just spins the wheels is pointless. A person owning a FWD car is better off having the power in the upper RPMS anyways so It can be put to the ground, if you know what im saying.

whats done to your tranny besides an lsd upgrade?

hmm. i didnt know that the stock turbo is what kills lsds. It makes sense to have a turbo that spools are higher rpms on a FWD car. Good advise guys.

1. Stiffer engine mounts and tranny mounts lead to less movement which is better for the engine and tranny. If you have stock mounts get rid of them ASAP.

2. I've seen 3 types of Protege pistons myself. Held in my own hands, CP, Arias, and Wiseco. I've run 4 sets of Arias through my engine, so I changed to CP. The CP's blow everything else out of the water. I'm ashamed I didn't switch to them sooner. All the relief cuts are more precise and have beveled edges (leads to less potential hotspot area) and the forging looks to be of better quality. The Wiseco's are the worst of the three. Sharp edges, and like the Arias a domed piston top. My new CP's are flat topped. (Finally!) Not to say the Wiseco's are garbage, but they have no place in a "serious" build engine like this.

What LordWorm said is true, CP puts ALOT of R&D into their pistons, and have VERY strict quality control. They're quiet, well made, and strong as ****.

Before anyone flames MY OPINION remember, it is only MY OPINION. (Read that line again before you flame.)

I woulda guessed with that much power cryo treating the tranny would be a must. Isnt the transer case prone to warping and stuff? Could of made that up completely tho haha

Edit: I meant transmission case not transfer case

He has, but you haven't read back the last couple of pages as he posted all his tranny upgrades today. He had a video posted back in September or something in this thread.

dam, i should have stuck with arias then :( i got wiseco because the arias didnt come in the size i wanted
hopefully there good enough for 200whp lol but isnt a domed piston top due to compression? the lower the compression the smaller the "dome" is...
or am i misunderstanding something

Yeap... check out the level of internal lightening CP go through as well - they will cut everything out of the piston they can, that is not structural to the design... its called "maximum internal lightening"...so you get an ultra strong, ultra LIGHT piston at the end of it. Good stuff.

Good choice on the CP's Maxx....

as for the gears - the stock tranny is only going to put up with so much abuse before it dies. The weakness is that the case twists. You can keep modding it and modding it to reinforce it but eventually if you throw enough power at it, its going to let go - regardless of where the power comes on.

Better alternative is to investigate a transmission from another manufacturer (toyota perhaps) and have an adapter made up. Initial cost will be higher than a protege tranny build (because custom clutch, flywheel modification, shift linkages, new shifter and so forth) - but they will put up with more abuse, and more importantly, are far cheaper to replace if they do die.

Playing with the G-series tranny is heartbreak waiting to happen. No matter how much you spend on cryo treating, straight car par gear sets, LSDs, reinforcing the bearing cups, and whatever else you can dream of - its eventually going to break... its not a case of if, its a case of when.
