Does your new car burn oil?

I think my oil level is a little bit lower than it was 2,500 miles ago. Has anyone else noticed their new car's oil level decreasing?

No, it has not been changed yet.

This may be pure urban myth / old wive's tale but I vaugely recall something about piston rings having to seat on new engines and possible oil leakage into the cylinder until they do seat. I'd do some research on that and/or wait for more expert opinions.

I had to make a 1200 mile trip (600 miles each way) soon after I bought my 2010 so I had the oil changed just before I left (510 miles on the odometer) and than shortly after I got back (2000 miles). I did use about a half a quart (Penzoil 5w-20) during the trip out there but did not use any during the trip back and it hasn't used any since.

I had a GTI that done this due to what I believe was not a proper break in period. The manual on the 2010 Speed 3 says 600 miles and then you are good. I hate hearing that Mazda might have this problem too.

NathanR has validity in what he is saying as well. Some motors will use oil until the rings and seals are seated. Dont go banging it off the rev limiter until after a couple thousand miles in my opinion.
