side note...Across the Universe is now probably my favorite movie ever.

Went into Hyannis Honda to look at a used Acura. The salesman, Tony, greeted us and was kind...at first. Before giving us the keys for a test drive he showed my wife and I the list of things needed to be done to the car, all of which added up to approx.$2,500. We came back and after a brief talk about our trade-in we felt a bit uncomfortable. His true young sales nature came out. I tried to explain that we had purchased a new Honda from them years back but it was quickly dismissed and taken as if I was trying get more money off the deal. We spent the next 30 minutes waiting....and waiting.

Our current car is a low mileage 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited in excellent condition. Tony came back with a ridiculous high payment, would not budge on the sticker price which was high, and gave us the lowest possible trade-in value for our car. We said we wanted to think about about it overnight. He left and brought over a sales manager named Dave. Again I was kind and tried to tell him of our previous sales experience, to no avail it was brushed off. Instead we were insulted from him telling us how Jeep is going bankrupt, the parts are hard to find, they don't think they would be able to sell our car, and so on. Then he explained that the $2,500 in repairs needed for the Acura was part of the deal as if we had to pay for it. That was the final straw and we left.

Days later we get a call at 9A.M. It was Tony and he said to my wife he was sorry we could not come to an agreement on the car. Mentioned that they could look for other Acura's if we were interested. When my wife said no thank you, he then proceeded to say that, "If you wait a few months you may qualify for the Cash for Clunkers bill". The next response was not pleasant. My wife was infuriated and said, "You can qualify for the F*** Off bill!" Never...ever going there again. After owning 3 Acuras and a Honda this was very sad to experience.

Wow dude... really? I'm glad our local Honda dealer is decently cool. I've had to deal with them a few times regarding my Civic.

Sure do man. It's amazing how they assume you know nothing about cars and just talk down to you like a piss ant.

(boom07)wow,with all the crying about being so slow an economy and all....just amazes me, but i'm not shocked at all...i've run into all these guys over the yrs too....i'll be seriously shopping soon too and dread it!

last year when I was looking for a truck I found one on long island. I was ready to roll. Got it added to my insurance, got my own financing, took the ferry over to look at and buy the truck with check in hand. But I get there and there are a few minor issues with it.....curbed wheels, improperly installed tonneau which had led to some scrapes and small rust spots, dented read bumper, had been smoked in.....and I was a little ticked off that they had not disclosed any of this to me when I spoke with them on the phone about it so I asked them to do a little better on the price...like hundreds of dollars off maybe? seriously...hundreds...is that so much? And the sales girl who was working with me (obviously a rookie) said a number of times that the price (which was admittedly decent) was very firm and they would not move at all. Finally I got her to go in and give them an offer that was like 500 dollars off of the asking price so she did and came back out and said they couldnt do it.

We had taken it for a test drive and everything so I told her I was going (with my dad and my friend) to grab some lunch and we would think about it. Went to lunch and decided that more than the problems with the truck, their inability to negotiate AT ALL really bothered me. After all this was in october 08...when their company (Ford) was getting bailout money, no one was buying cars, especially not gas guzzlers, and nooo one could find financing, and I was in their showroom with a bank check made out to them.

So we just left after lunch and started driving home. I called the dealership but she was "with a customer" and they asked if I wanted to leave a message. I said yea, you can just let her know that chris called about the Harley Davidson truck and I am gonna pass on it". I thought surely when this person heard that a deal on an expensive truck was slipping away they woudl be like "oh, hang on a minute" and get someone to try to keep me interested....but nope...the guy goes "ok, ill let her know".

And then she calls me half an hour later on my cell asking what happened. I told her I wasnt happy with their inability to talk about the price at all. She made a few nasty remarks about how I didnt even go back to the dealership and I was like, why would I go back? You couldnt come down on the price, i asked you multiple times, you checked....nothing happening. I already looked at it and test drove it...what am I missing?

They still had that truck on their lot like 2-3 months later and I found another one in better shape with fewer miles that I wound up buying. Had some issues with the dealership that wound up selling me my truck but a better experience overall.

There are some good salesfolk out there, but at the same time, there are a lot more of them that suck.. Really really suck.
