flooding the engine

I keep meaning to mention this story;;;; when I first got my ms3, the dealership flooded the engine almost immediately, by revving the car too hard,,,, after it had been sitting in the dealer's garage all winter. and then by abruptly turning the car off without letting it warm up whatsoever.

so then he said I should test-drive another unit, while their mechanic fixes that one. apparently the turbo boost was very limited. so I test drove another ms3 in a different color,,, then when I got back,,, the mechanic had already fixed the flooded engine turbo issue whatnot on the original ms3.

so I talked to him and he explained the situation, said that it would be fine. and if any issues w/ the engine then he will look at it asap. so since then the car has been A-okay, no issues with the engine.

what do u think though? ever flood your own engine mistakenly? anything 2 be concerned about?

Flooded with what? "Flooding" used to apply to carburetors. The only flooded engines I've heard of were flooded with water and hydro-locked.

something doesnt sound right there... first off if the car was sitting all winter why would they just jump in and rev it? if it was already running how would you flood the car?

needless to say, no never flooded my 08 mistakenly... an old 83 i used to have maybe.

I flooded a weedwhacker like a moron last week end Little bastard wouldn't crank after sitting over the winter.

not totally impossible, but kinda improbable. if there was fuel pressure and for some reason the injectors were stuck open before cranking then it could possible produce an overly rich cylinder and prevent starting. but for this to happen every injector would have to be stuck open, and the fuel would have to be pressurized long enough to do it, and the only way that would really happen would be if you were sitting with KOEO for several seconds before cranking.

orrrrrr....if something was clogging the intake. like if someone had just installed a new air filter but for some crazy-ass reason didn't remove it from the plastic bag first (it has happened before, ask murphy and his law)

but for the OP....it kinda sounds reasonable enough but if it really did happen as you say they explained it to you then you've got some real idiots runing around that dealer. fuel-wise it doesn't really matter if its been sitting all winter or 24 hours, its still gonna use more fuel during cold startup so the engine and exhaust (catalytic converters) can heat up quickly and start doing it's best to save the environment. so if they were really over-revving a cold enging they could technically be dumping too much fuel into the engine with no atomization happening. and then shutting if off right away won't help either. just be more wary of any little thing so you can blame it on them later

It is definitely not impossible. Things can happen, no spark, dirty MAF causing bad a/r then leading to fouling of the plugs. If it couldnt happen, it wouldn't be in the owners manual how to cure it, which I am sure that is all the tech did. (Hold the accelerator pedal down fully and crank until it starts). <-- Same procedure as carbed motors but different tech, in FI cars it kicks to a "Flooded mode" which basically calls for no fuel.

actually there is a way to help clean spark plugs. with this car there is sometihng about keeping the rpms at like 3k under no load for like a minute or something, and you do it like 3 times. i think i'll try this soon as im getting a little bit of a rough idle. already did a maf cleaning and filled up the tank and added a pint of seafoam and it helped a little

actually there is a way to help clean spark plugs. with this car there is sometihng about keeping the rpms at like 3k under no load for like a minute or something, and you do it like 3 times. i think i'll try this soon as im getting a little bit of a rough idle. already did a maf cleaning and filled up the tank and added a pint of seafoam and it helped a little

This happened when i picked my car up, i went to leave the dealer and the CEL came on. Missfire code on cyl 3. they turn the car off, turn it back on and hold the revs to 4500 for 2min then the car shuts itself off and you turn it back on or something.

but really there's no reason why these plugs shouldn't last 50-60k miles. still have stock tires after 21k miles, and probably have at least 2 more rotations left in the tread. gotta squeeeeeeeeeeze all the life out of stuff in these tough times(headbang)

Fair enough. thats a lot of miles for spark plugs tho. Especially seeing as they are relatively cheap and easy to replace. Probably save the money in gas mileage improvement by replaceing them in half that many miles...

Colder plugs shouldn't cost anymore. Other cars/applications use different step plugs and they should be priced the same as the rest of that particular line of plugs. And I get noticeably better idle/throttle from "cheap" ngk v2 plugs vs. the more expensive iridiums.
