1/4 mile times with slip

nice run sleeper3! how did u prepare b4 u did your run? (if u don't mind sharing ;) )

mentally.

loljk... well kinda. I'm not sure what you mean, but I'll just say it all...
1. take everything out of the car that you don't need (ie spare, jack, tools, etc)
2. have about a 1/4 tank of gas when you get to the track
3. tires at 28PSI. that was the pressure I had the best 60' times at
4. drive around the water and don't do a burn out. I did zip the tires around once to clean them off or whatever. that seemed to help a bit.
5. stage and go!

Fosters-

I do my burnouts in second gear - wheel speed is the key to getting heat in a tire. In my big block truck, I'd hit over 150 mph wheel speed but still be sitting still - you can see how fast that would heat up the tires - http://www.fmosracing.com/videos/burnout.wmv. I zip the tires over in the water and pull forward a couple of feet, set the e-brake as hard as I can, rev it to 4000-4500 and come off the clutch as quickly as possible (this prevents the smoking clutch you described, which I've also done twice before). Keep the wheel pointed dead straight ahead. Everything in the car complains if you get off-center with the steering.

At some point the tires will get enough heat in them to start dragging the car forward even with the e-brake hard-set. When that happens, gradually release the ebrake while staying on the gas. Let off the gas and tag the brakes before you go through the beams (breaking through staging in a car with front brakes is a dragstrip faux pas).

good advices

That is good advice. The stock tires did not seem to care whether they were WARMed up or not it seemed to me they just spun like crazy as soon as boost came on. But i did hate the stock tires myself so i did do second gear heat ups without e brake though and second gear launches at different rpms. I agree clutch drop, and not to feather. but if you have track tires they sure will want the heat in there to be at max grip. When i go this year, on more serious tires i will try your suggested pressure drop in the fronts.

Well, my interface between my computer and scanner requires a reboot to reset and my computer is busy running simulations for the next couple of weeks, so I'll just post the slips.

My two best passes from last Thursday night at IRP (which is not a particularly "fast" track):
R/T - .054
60' - 1.858 (trippy, exactly the same 60' as on my previous best)
330' - 5.354
1/8 - 8.264
MPH - 83.84
1000' - 10.788
1/4 - 12.915
MPH - 105.65

R/T - -.022
60' - 1.918
330' - 5.443
1/8 - 8.332
MPH - 85.10
1000' - 10.825
1/4 - 12.941
MPH - 106.24

FMOS Racing - 1.858, 8.264@83.84, 12.915@105.65, (I, MM, DR), 750' ASL

Car has an .80 in it if I can get everything just right. But, I think I'm going to stop trying for it for now and turn the boost up a few psi, see if it'll go .60.

Holy s***!! congrats man!

Just an intake for power mods??? awesome

keep posting i love watching your videos and success!!! congrats

I am impressed with how fast tha car is with next to nothing for mods ! Hell i have gone 12.82 but with a good deal of mods. That is just nuts !! Good job man.

You are the man!

Its awesome how quick a car can be with a just minor mods and a good driver!

Basically the same set up over here (minus the slicks) but I would probably run a 15.5 because I am terrible at the strip.

I think having traction (slicks/drag tires), really helps the ms3 at the track. Gearing is so short that first and even 2nd is spin city. If you have traction and can shift fast then I guess the short gearing is not that terrible of a thing.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I'm really impressed by this little station wagon and I get pretty amused at the way people are surprised by how it runs at the track. On the nights that I get to make a lot of passes, the track workers will say things like, "That thing has to be getting hot!" I tell them, "Nope, it's nearly stock, so it's not even working hard."

If you run back through the thread here, you'll see a pretty consistent mantra from me about tires, tires, tires. By the way, they're DOT drag radials, not slicks. It would leave harder on slicks but my home track won't allow slicks on street car nights. My problem right now is getting the burnout right. The first pass in the video is my best 60' and also the best heat in the tires, which you can tell from the amount of smoke. What I realized after watching the vids is that the guys at the track are lining me up too far forward so that the rear tires are getting into the water. That allows them to slide before I get enough heat in the fronts. I need to get someone who understands a FWD burnout to line me up in the box.

I wasn't on my game and didn't powershift 1-2 or 2-3 on that first pass. I did on the later pass and you can see a solid mph improvement at the 1/8 and 1/4. Unfortunately I didn't stick it quite as well out of the hole. By the last pass on the video the temperatures had dropped and tire pressure was so low that it was impacting mph down the track.

I bought a used EBC and installed it in the ashtray over the winter. It's not plumbed in for control yet, but I'll try to get to that this coming weekend. It's a Blitz Dual SBC-R so nothing fancy, but I needed a gauge anyway so I figured I'd kill two birds.

Thanks again! :)

You are in the hunt for the fastest 1/4 miler! i think driver311 has it. Laloosh and tru boost and couple more hang in under the 13. You must have a factory prepped model! haha. it is awesome you are sharing your technique and insights with some of us who still cannot even figure out the lights.. Thanks for all, and Great driving.

thanks fellas

shooting for 13.6 next time. want to see if i can get 13.5 before i get anymore mods. even if its 13.59 ha

with those mods, you should be running with me!

what rpm are you shifting at?

looking at your slip, you've lost your edge by 330'. on my 13.5 run, I had a slower 60', but a faster 330'.
