BC coilover install pics review

i'd just measure the bar to be sure...
put an adjustable crescent wrench around it them measure the gap.

oh, damn! really?! i realized the seat belt housing was above the damper knob when i installed the coilovers, but i assumed there would be enough room to attach the extensions. yaaargh! there must be a way....

I believe the solution is to drill a hole in the metal seat belt housing (and then the plastic panel/cover for the extension to pass through...?
And... the extensions must be long enough to pass through both.

that might actually work... the extension is definitely long enough.
like i said, i'm gonna look at it again tomorrow and see what i can do. nothing is ever as easy as you think it's gonna be!

success installing the damper knob extensions! i must thank mspeedP5 for the inspiration...

here's the seat belt housing before the install. clearly blocking the knob at the top of the damper.

i removed the housing and, using a dremel tool with a circular blade attachment, cut a sort of triangular piece out of the back of the housing... as seen at the bottom of the picture. i actually widened it a bit more before the install. this is a shot of the first one, which was a little sloppy. the second one was much cleaner after i had some practice butchering the first! but it's function over form here since no one will ever see it once installed. i also don't think that removing this size piece of the seat belt housing damages the integrity of the housing or compromises the safety of the seat belt at all.

i then attached the extensions to the knobs and reinstalled the seat belt housings. i drilled a 5/8" hole about 3" from the side and about 4" from the front edge of the panel under the rear windshield, and threaded the extensions through as i put the panel back in place.

and we're done! now i can easily adjust the rear dampers for various driving conditions.

Hey yellow do you ever come down to san jose? I think i have seen your car before. I was eyeing it one day at a bowling alley. lol but that was in milpitas.

i actually bought my car used from a honda dealership in san jose, but never really go down there. i left it with a technician there once while he replaced the intercooler hoses. he test drove it for several days, maybe he went bowling with my car!

they are VERY simple. the bottom of the extension is just like a cap that goes over the damper knob with a screw in the side to tighten it on.

Update-4/12/09

My front driverside enlink bolt came off... dont know how long it has been like that..but i couldnt feel any difference...weird...put a new one on.. other then that they are beautiful still...and i decided to lower them allllll the way down. ya. its nice. There was no seizing at all..just sprayed them down with water and wiped'em... the spaners spinned no problem..and everything looked as if they were brand new.. Ive realized why i have clunking and what not..its so obvious..cross member bars hitting the sway bars... Still feelin good. :)

ive got a question for you slammed people..did you re-position the rear sway bar so that the endlink conects under the sway bar?

I like it man! Im still waiting for mine to come in. How long did it take you to get your coilovers? And where did you get it from? PG?

Got mine installed! No pics yet because I am a little disappointed

Problems:

1. They don't work with the GT Spec rear strut tower bar. The studs are not long enough. GT Spec bar will be up for sale soon. Also looking to buy non-cut rear side interior panels.

2. My rear endlinks look to be too long, even though they are new OEM P5 endlinks. They are causing the oem RSB to hit the 4 link bar thingy. It is supposed to sit above that bar, right? lol.

3. I can't lower the rear much more (barely tucking tire) as the bottom of the threaded shock body will hit the e-brake line.

Noooooooooooo! My set is on the way and I have the GT Spec brace too! I wonder if BC would make a few sets of mounts with longer studs? There must be a way. I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of the problem areas if you have some.

I just took a quick glance at my studs. They extend pretty far. I'd like to see a detail shot of the GT sb mounts too since this was on my "list".

MaN that seems to be a really big problem or problems. Im pretty sure you can just buy a stud that would extend farther. to make it work out. Metric size maybe? idk. But im sure you'll find a way.

Chris, I might be going to the USCM. Im not sure sure yet... but i might be just stopping by and go for a drive.

I'll take some pics of the rear suspension woes, but I don't want to pull out the rear interior to take pics of the strut top hats

Oh, come on, you can do it... Just kidding, I've just put mine back in for the third time and will have to do it again soon. Getting tired of it. I'll try to remember take photos of my install, with measurements for the holes that need to be cut for the STB.
