im curious as to how much boost u can push on stock msp motor and be safe not to blow it?

the consensus seems to be 10psi with ems. some run more with a great tune

10 psi seems to be the line...but I wouldn't attempt that without supporting mods. I have seem some blow the motor with 8 psi so don't take 10 psi as written in stone. I've also seen some running 11 psi with a GT28RS without a tune.

Safe not to blow on an MSP....Natural aspiration.lol...You can thank Mazda for just slapping a turbo on a regular motor and just tuning a pig rich map to help with detonation.

i agree they could have done alot better with the msp like forged internals, but they did a good job for what it is. i like it, i do like the suspension though handles well and not rough

boost

ya i think ill stay with stock boost for now sounds too risky to up the boost i think ill be happy with the mods im gettin for her while she sits in the garage over the winter i dont want anything too extreme.

10 psi is safe on the stock motor with supporting mods. . . as has been said. Try to look for an EMS like the Unichip or SS AFC - or prefered SS FTC. Look at upgrading to a larger dp, our's are entirely too small in diameter. Not only that, but look at a Boost Controller; doesn't have to electronic, but they don't spike as much. Oh, and another thing . . . imo, don't settle for ebay crap unless it's real.

yea a friend of mine got a cai for his spec v on ebay and had nothing but problems with it.

Don't get me wrong, you might find some legit things on ebay, but you get what you pay for. You just have to keep ur eye out for those things that look shady.

10000% true. Unless it's a brand-name used item, I wouldn't buy *anything* from ebay that goes into the engine or is supposed to add performance.

I have ran 8-9 without an EMS. IMO as long as u stay below 10 with bolt ons it seems ok. It does all depend on how much risk u wanna take. each MSP is its own animal. Some blow on 8, and others i hav heard of someone runnin up to 15 on stock block, tho this person was tryin to blow the motor. The funny thing is she didnt.
Go with your gut, if u up the boost and it doesnt seem like she can handle it, drop down.
Ok, the boost controller thing. i have a Turbosmart Boost "T". i learned that it was "gated" (which meant it had this spring and ball in it that like delayed boost or something). well I noticed that it worked better and had alot less boost spike when it was removed. So if u get a MBC (manual Boost Controller), i suggest removing the "gated" system.

torque spikes kill rods, which is why some blow at 8 and others live to see 15. A nice tune could do wonders for the FS-DE and gt2554, which is a real shame.

Well now im glad i took out that "gated" crap. I did run 10 for a few days, but felt uncomfortable, so turned it back down. See, go with guts!!

before you start playing with any boost get a boost gauge!!. I'm running a Gt28RS with the stock EMS. That will change eventually but I'm only at 6 psi. The downpipe itself could be better but that midpipe needs to go for sure. Although the Stock exhaust iis decent the vibrant or corksport are great improvements and value. The plastic intake piping and Side mount intercooler aka super heat soaker 9000 is what really criples this car.
do youself a favor and read this thread

I agree with Zuku, FIRST MOD EVER should be a BOOST GAUGE!!
Then work on replacing the stock SMIC and piping. As a warning, my nipple broke off one of the stupid stock IC piping, so i would suggest makin that your second MOD.

Exactly...they could have raised the price about a grand and they would have still sold...plus would have been more reliable. Maybe beefed up the tranny and raised the price another grand...but I'm going off topic (smash)
