Resale values....wow

Ha

I bought mine 6mo ago for $19,000.00 with 16k and its now worth $19,000.00 (KBB) with 19,000K
HA!
and like dude said before I dont think I would Sell mine Except for another one :)
(drive2)

I thought about trading mine in for something with more power until they came back with only wanting to give me $17K for my car. I thought about what I had and what I was going to get and I'm glad I stuck with the Speed6. The other car was all exterior looks and lots of HP, but the inside was so cheap looking, it was an automatic, and the gas mileage was beyond piss poor. I'd rather stick with my speed6 which gets me compliments on the interior & exterior, gets me decent gas mileage and I got enough HP that most cars have to respect.

mazdas typically, from what i have witnessed over time, do not hold their resale too well. why this is, can't really say. toyotas and hondas tend to really retain value by comparison as japanese brands go.

I would definitely get a 3 hatch before I would ever get a Saturn. You realize Saturn is not going to be around much longer dont you?

I'd say keep the MS6. Look at the nasty console display and buttons! I loved the exterior, hated the interior on that car.

I've been toying with the idea of downgrading to a smaller car, so I set my sights on the Saturn Astra XR. While new prices are really good right now, trade-in values are in the toilet.

[snip]

I really like the Saturn. Tight and peppy, lots of interesting features and a good-looking little 3-door IMO. But it looks like I'll be keeping Black Cherry a while longer.

Have you read any reviews of that car?

When they opened their desk drawers and pulled out a little yellow book with "NADA" printed on the front in big black letters.

KBB isn't the end-all for dealership pricing. They never used it in WY, where I did most of my car trading.

The dealer uses a different version of the NADA when determining retail values. What you buy at the store will have different numbers.

Also, books are only guidelines. Black Book is typically the wholesale guide. Most use the online service now. Basically weekly auction values are what they go by.

Again, books never determine wholesale. Also, never use good or perfect. Dealers go by average and then tick the price up or down depending on their input.

The market now is completely messed up, so it really is based on the market you're in.

I grew up in the car business wiht my parents having several dealerships and sold/managed for years and never saw anything in the market like this.

i would not feel bad about buying an Opel built Astra. saturn badge or not.

I have a theory: because most people are uninformed regaring the uniqueness of the Mazda lineup. Most people turn up their noses at the brand, thinking it is all about the cute little girly-convertible. I do not even try to tell anyone what "kind" of car I have - they would never get it. So when asked what kind of car I drive, I usually just say I drive a Mazda. The conversation always ends there.

I work with too many people that spend WAY too much for BMWs just to hav them in the shop all of the time.

The problem with KBB and Nada is that they don't buy cars. To really find out the cash value of your speed6, go to a place like CarMax, if one is in your area.

There is also a forum on Edmunds where you can post info about your car and a guy will look up the Manheim auction reports and tell you what it's really selling for.

The problem with the economy right now is that it's a great time to just go out and buy a car, as long as you're not trying to trade one in.

^^^ carmax on plano parkway and ohio?

the economic situation isn't quite the same in tx. as it is for the rest of the nation. u might be suprised if u do try selling it outright instead of trading it in. i know the mazda dealership in richardson has four 06's on their used lot all priced from 16k to 18k. in any case good luck to ya'.

drive it into the ground for at least 3 more years, and when you have to replace the turbo and dont want to, trade it in. you will be comprimising repair costs in the $5000 at that point for a 9k+ large downpayment on a new car in 2011, might be some way better choices than a saturn dude. maybe even a 2012 Mazdaspeed 6 Twin Turbo. :D

The rumor mill stops here. There has been no official release of information saying ANYTHING about a twin turbo V6 Mazdaspeed 6.

I got a 6yr/100K powertrain and 5yr/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty on it, so it can break all it wants to...the repair bill won't be mine. :-) I don't see myself keeping it longer than that.

I've already ruled out a new Mazda 6 of any designation due to its size. I have no desire to own a car that large (again). This car is the perfect size for me, so finding something similar or smaller to replace it is going to be a challenge. The Astra is the first small car to come along in a long while that turned my head. Unfortunately, I think Saturn nixed the idea of an Astra Redline. So, clearly it wasn't meant to be and that's fine. I think I'd miss BlackCherry anyway.
