need small rims for p5 for winter pothole driving

You can keep your humidity and hurricanes.

Both 15" and 14" size tires are pretty cheap. I've heard finding 5 bolt 14" wheels can be a little challenging though. I have 195/55-15 Hankook iPikes on my car in the winter.

I take it you've never been to florida before right?

A few years back...we had a GACC meet in the Cheeha Mnts. I blew one tire on the highway, drove that b**** on stock rims (tire was flat as a pancake) to the next exit, and changed the tire. Only to have ANOTHER tire go flat while I was putting the spare on. So, I had to drive on the OTHER stock rim (tire was flat) to the Wal-Mart and swap another tire out.
Moral of the story:
STOCK P5 WHEELS are pretty much invincible. I have 2 witnesses and pictures of this incident also.

and the pictures are where? lol

S.E Mazda Meet Pics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday July 29 to Sunday 31
Well, after getting a late start on Friday, I went to pick up Matty P in B-ham. Loaded up the wagon and we headed out to Cheaha. Well, Barry (Jackelope) had been at the park crazy early and was checking out the roads etc. When we arrived at the park, we were greeted by rain...and lots of it. Anywho, to make a long, fun & interesting story short, I got to meet some really cool mazda geeks, pummel people during a HUGE food fight, pummel even more people with water balloons and drive like a crazy guy through some of the nicest curves a guy w/a Mazda could ask for. Of course, good times are always great, but you have to add the bad ones too. A few of us got cracks in the windshield (I got 2 damn it!), I got pinched by the fuzz (got off thanks to my military ID card) & 2...yes, 2 flat tires. One of which decided to grenade itself to s***. The other went limp while Matty & Miller helped me put on the spare.

I couldn't find the pics though...weird.

here are my new used 14s. i dont know how wide they are but they are from a eclipse year also unknown. look good upclose with minor scratches. will put 2 new tires on them soon

Looking good for some winter driving. lol What size tires are on the wheels currently? My center caps wont fit the Eclipse steelies as well.

i got 185/70/14 but according to the calculator thing in my first post 185/65/14 will match speedo better.

Sorry for being such a newb, but what are the size values? I'm in need of some winter tires/steelies and found something on craigslist with a 185/65R15. Would that work with a MP5?

well the size you are showing here will throw off the actual speed by 3.2% faster then shown on speedometer which is not too bad. input the sizes on this site to see other differences: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/info_specs.jsp
stock p5 wheel and tire data:
Tires - 195/50/16
Wheels - 16x7 +50 offset

for my car i went with 14 inch as i wanted the most height of the sidewall without altering the speedometer too much and with my current setup (185/65/14) my actual speed is 1% less than shown on speedometer. new jersey has really bad roads in some places in the winter so i wanted the most protection. also with more sidewall your shocks will thank you some also.

ok, found another.
Blizzak 205/55/16 91R WS 60
Rims say 16x61/2j.
The calculator says they're 3mph faster than stock. But, I'm concerned about them even fitting in the wheel well. Suggestions?

well i would not go with anything bigger than 15s for pothole clearance purpose. they are only little higher than stock so should fit. but like i said to have extra cushion i got 14s 15s are a little worse for this reason but are better than stock 16s. also generally the bigger the wheel the more the tires cost (if you try to keep it close to stock speedometer accuracy). of course 225/65/15 may be less$ than tires that will fit our cars cuz they are not as low profile as we have. which is another reason i got 14s.

Yeah, I'd probably benefit from having 14's being that I live in Minnesota. We seem to have some brutal potholes all winter long.

yes i destroyed 1 tire completely 2 months ago when i hit a pothole here in nj on a PAID highway. and this pothole has cost me 180$ and at this time unknown damage to my suspension as i hear some noise in there since it happened. i had to get alignment and 3 new tires (under road hazzard warranty) i needed 1 tire but since the same pothole screwed up my other 2 tires in the past i decided to replace 3 at the same time.

I agree with the others that recommend craigslist... Snow tires seem to be the first thing to go when its time to move or clean the garage out. I picked up some that were on a miata not that long ago for $100 with steelies. the tires looked new and were perellis too..... Of course, here in VA, alot of people buy snow tires and either realize they don't really need them or trade their cars every couple of years.

Not snow tires, but I just picked up a set of Mazda3 rims and tires for $150 on CL!

So, by the sound of it, these eclipse rims should fit my MP5 ,correct?

Sorry to be so "posty", but I also saw these rims that are a much better deal. From what I found without knowing the exact year of the camry they came off of, the bolt pattern is 114.3, but I'm curious about the rest of the rim specs.

the eclipse/talon wheels from first link is what i have exactly and they fit perfect. i am so happy with them. we got first snow today in nj and i tested them and they work great. i get alot more traction with cheap tires than with my 205/40/16 on stock rims. the second link you posted has different bolt pattern so they will not fit.
