What have you done to your P5 today?

Just took my car to get detailed at a local shop. Kid was a year older than me but had at least 5 years experience and he did a great job. I'm very impressed. He gave me a FULL bottle of high quality spray wax straight from his own supply and also gave me some swirl remover. The whole job and everything only cost me $50. Needless to say, I'll be going back there again. I will take pictures when I buy a new camera.

i have to admit, for 50bucks i have to question the quality of the detail

What were the products he gave you?

And she's down again... I noticed the AFRs going really lean but the car was still driving and idling just fine. I get home only to find I have a massive exhaust leak at the turbo flange. It appears as if one of the studs has completely sheared off. Kind of sucks as it was only installed for 2 days! To make matters worse the stud is a weird adaptor as it has two different thread sizes. Where the hell am I supposed to find a new one and one that's going to be strong enough!

ok so from the looks of it, the dude u bought the turbo from just straight cut the oil drain hose lol so your going to have to have a stainless,
and im not sure what you were asking about the p5 header and the msp but thats the egr that screws onto the p5 header lol a turbo is actually a really easy concept once u get how it works and were everything goes

edit: saw your response and thats good that u dont have oil and stuff all over your turbo, just tighten the oil lines maybe add some thread locker and you'll be set

duh(freak) i knew that too. im an idiot :) but i noticed it is not on the one sent to me. its just an empty hole.

He uses jaxwax products. They're based right here by our airport so it's easy for him to get the stuff too. I checked the detail over and the paint looks about 7 and a half million times better. He didn't do like a three step process or anything since the paint wasn't that bad. He just used a cleaner polish/wax to remove the s*** that was on top. Kid honestly knows what he's doing and yea the price is cheap but he knows it.

Well everything is removed again :( At least I'm getting good at the disassembly process. Now I just have to find some new studs. Does anyone know where I could find some adaptor studs? I'm not sure of the sizes but I think one side is SAE and the other is metric. I think the metric side is M6x1.5 or something similar and I have no idea what the other side is; perhaps 1/4x20?

You wouldn't believe it - three of the four studs holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold were sheared right off! The forth one sheared off when I was removing the only remaining nut. I'm not sure if I just over-torqued them or if they just weren't cut out for the heat/stress of that location. The reassembly process shouldn't be that bad. The biggest problem is going to be finding four new studs and bolts that aren't going to break and installing them without over-torquing them. Even after all that I now run the risk of having another exhaust leak that I didn't have last time. I really don't want to buy new gaskets after the old ones have only been on there for three days. Another good note was that I was able to remove all the broken studs so no drilling required! The really bad news is that I won't be able to really work on the car until next weekend because my fiance is visiting this weekend. I really wanted to impress her with the work I've done (LOL, yeah, right) but now it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Damn man sorry to hear that. Just no luck for you lately huh? I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the direction of some new studs that'll work just fine for you. Get it fixed before the 14th and then come to the Mohican Fun Run with us!

Dude..I need to see pics of your setup....Something sounds very wierd.
Yeah, check out Pirana's old how to. For some reason MAM drilled and tapped a different thread in the exhaust manifold. I have no idea why but it's making my life difficult right now because I can't find anything!

Screw that....Why dont we make it something that will work....What if you had four more of th ARP studs./..And we tapped those holes on the Mani to be 8mm.....Would that work?

That would be ideal as those things are indestructible (hell, even I could only manage to strip the allen key but that's nothing). I really don't want to risk drilling out the manifold because then I run the risk of getting too large a stud to fit through the turbo. I actually just had an epiphany - why not just use a regular SAE stud? I mean, since I have to get new nuts as well and I know this thread size will fit through the turbo, why not just stick with a SAE stud and just get matching nuts? Sure it'll be kind of annoying having to use an SAE wrench but it should save me some headaches. Now I just have to find some high-quality SAE threaded studs.

My new goal is to have the car up and running before late Friday night. Might be possible.

Screw that....Pics or Ban.

LOL

So you think you'll be able to make it out to the fun run? There should be at least 20 Mazdas there I believe and I heard it's just a blastety blast (yes that was a Dane Cook reference)

That Mohican thing Perro del Sol posted? If so, that's next weekend so I should theoretically be able to go. Cleveland is just a hell of a distance away. That's the reason I didn't make it to Satimko's party-thing (that and I didn't finish the car until 3 PM).
