Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

Has anyone paid to have the fix done if the dealer won't cover it? I'm just wondering because I may be importing a Speed6 (into Canada from US) and if it hasn't been done I'm assuming I won't be able to get a Mazda Canada dealer to do it on a car that I didn't buy from them, and isn't a CDN car.

Any ideas on price range for a Type A or Type B? Our mechanic happens to live 2 doors down from my parents and is a good friend, so if it doesn't have to be done at a dealer I'm sure I could get a break on the labour.

You'll probably spend a buttload on parts that way though.... uh.... I wouldn't think it mattered between Canada and US regarding warranty... Mazda is Mazda isn't it?

If anything, perhaps you're close to the states like New York or Michigan and drive into town to see if you can get it done?

$14xx.xx for the TSB fix/warranty charge.
Different car...
Much easier to drive...
Steering is a little heavier...a plus.

Apparently Mazda Canada and Mazda USA are different entities and dealers can be sticky about working on cars that are originally from somewhere else (and getting reimbursed by Mazda Canada on a Mazda USA car). What some have done, at least I've heard, is Mazda Canada can do the fix and bill Mazda USA for it... but that seems unlikely that many would be willing to try.

Mazda MS6 clutch exploded - Mazda unwilling to help

Guys,
If you have less than 12k miles, take the vehicle in and get the TSB done whether you think you need it or not.

My MS6's clutch exploded at 13k miles and they wouldn't warranty the defect even with the TSB acknowledging the problem. I took this all the way to the president of Mazda and got a letter back stating that "they are not going to warranty the repair". The bottom line was that they felt I damaged the clutch from aggressive driving and because it was over 12k miles they weren't liable. This was my work commuter car and the vehicle was never launched or driven hard.

I am no amateur driver. I've owned 8 standards over 24 years of driving and have over 500,000 miles under my belt. I traded in an 04 RX8 6speed with 60,000 miles on the MS6 and had no clutch issues. I've had high HP muscle cars and have NEVER replaced a clutch. I've attached the letter sent and a photo of the exploded clutch plate.

Any suggestion for a next step on this problem would be welcomed.

Rob

Wow, that just looks horrible.... I'm all out of ideas for you, the only thing I can say is to see if you can speak with a Lawyer to find out if you have any standstill with this, or its out of your hands and nothing can be done.

On the plus side you could buy a Stage 2 clutch from SPEC for like $500? and that'll standup to anything beastly you could do with a STOCK engine.

well tried havin this tsb done, my dealership rejected me for havin over 12k miles.
what a buncha crap im pissed.
i called another dealership and left a message for the service manager who i hear is a really cool guy and is very mod and forum friendly. hopefully hell do it for me :/

That's really weird man, Mazda Corporate has told people it has nothing to do with the clutch warranty, and there have been many people who've been getting it done after the 12k warranty is up. Just sounds like stingy service shops to me :(

Like me :) I was just over 12k, (13 and change I think) but still over nonetheless.

Yeah that's what doesn't make sense, why some dealers are saying you can't get it done.

and instead of Mazda being faithful to the people who decide to purchase their brand, they just say "oh it's up to the dealers"

Bull......

Hey Guys... let me first say that I Love you guys :) With that forum, I found out there's a clutch issue :) I have Type B car; and call my dealer, they are doing the fix today... will post to let you know how it feels ! I'm from Canada, so for those under Mazda Canada, it's possible to get the TSB as well.

Hey ! Got my car today, with Type B fix, from my dealer at no charge around Montreal area. Clutch engagement definitely more easier, now I just have to get use to it :)

I took my car in today due to problem shifting into 1st, 2nd, and R. I asked the service manager if the TSB applied to my car. I got a call back a couple hours later saying he was ordering parts. I hope it works - this has really made driving the car a lot less fun than I had hoped when I bought it. My car had 23K.

Yeah let me ask you, does your car sometimes give you difficulty shifting from first into 2nd? like it's hard to engage or doesn't want to engage?

No, I never had any problems with any shifting until last weekend. I couldn't get in the "gate" for 1st/2nd or over in to reverse unless I jiggled it just right. I just got word from shop today that they replaced some linkages.

I'm more excited to see if the new clutch improves the driveability.

Oh I just wanted to know, because AFTER I had the TSB done, .... I had it done about 6k miles..... it wasn't til about 8k that I started noticing that 2nd gear gives me difficulty trying to engage sometimes, whether I'm driving hard/fast or just slow/easy.... someone else mentioned the same problem and that their 2nd gear had gone.

Hey guys,
I have 32,000 miles on my speed6 does any one think that i would still be able to get the TSB done. Or has anyone done it before with this kind of high mileage.

Its possible....... it ultimately is up to the dealer to decide whether to do it or not.

Dealers will say it's part of the clutch warranty, and others will say it's not. You just have to find a dealer that will do it.

well, i just got rejected by the first dealer due to high mileage. they also said that mazda is the one who did not authorize it not them which is BS because some guys did it before at different dealers as i read in the forum. I am going to try the next dealer.

TRY calling MAzdaUSA and see if you can get them to fax you a notice or something saying it's not part of the clutch warranty so it doesn't matter if you're over 12k miles

they may not do that, but it doesn't hurt to try.
