stay tuned ladies and gentlemen new plenum is done and pictures will be uploaded in a bit so look for a update within the next 2 hours......same bat time same bat channel

Almost there guys. Kelly is going out of town next Wednesday, so it has to be done before then.

The runner die works!

The pressed end of the runner matches up nicely with our flange, which is matched perfectly to the gasket. The transition from round to elliptical will be nice and smooth, and all 4 runners will match each other exactly.

You can also see how nice the injector dishes are in the above pic.

Lastly, the new plenum is all tacked up and looks good as far as the volume corrections go.

I should remind you all though that the finished manifolds for you guys will have a 1-piece plenum top... this proto will have separate pieces for each side and welded corners. The throttle cable bracket will also be trimmed down and rounded off... I want to play with the position of the holes with the part in the car before finalizing that, so that's why there is a giant bracket there for now.

More updates later in the week, progress should go very quickly now.

Looking very good. Man, I'm seriously never going to get around to a built engine. Too many awesome supporting mods floating around right now. Can't wait for you to finish Rich.

Thanks guys.

I added one more pic of the plenum to the above post.

Oh and I forgot to mention... we hit the parts with the bead blaster while I was there, and it gives them all a nice uniform finish. When you tack together plate, pipe, and sheet, the differences in each makes it look kinda funky. With everything blasted down and matching, it's going to look pretty bitchin. It can then be polished or chromed or anodized or whatever you guys want to do with them.

wow look good buddy..

cant wait to bolt it on my car once and for all

guess im gonna be going with 4 big injectors instead of 8 smaller ones eh?? oh well its a sacrifice i am willing to make to sport this piece under the hood :)

Man that is sexy. I can't wait to see some dyno charts too. The only thing holding me back is that I want nice low-end torque since I autocross my car (and thats about it).

You could still do it if you want... there would be nothing stopping you from having a shop put some bosses and rail mounts on it. :)

Looks awesome Rich! I can't wait.

Me either man, I am so pumped that it is almost done.

If my homework pays off, there won't be any low end losses. We'll have to wait and see, but there is still some room for me to make some tweaks if the real world testing shows anything negative.

This is most definitely going to be the coolest mod for the protege. I can't wait to see the difference (powerband hp gains/peak horsepower) between rich's mani and my entirely stock MSP intake manifold. The anticipation is killing me but it will undoubtedly pay off in the end.

I wouldn't exactly call this done....
Its done when it can be boltedon and used..Not tacked together.

But yes...looks good.
Its a lot smaller than I was thinking it would be for plenum volume.

Still on schedule for a Tuesday-ish completion. The vacuum block is done, and so are the blocks for the PCV ports.

The plenum is getting stitched up this weekend, and the runners are getting welded to the flange. If all goes well, Kelly can machine the injector holes Monday, and then all Wes will have to do is weld the plenum to the runners and we are done.

So close now.
