Reworked k0-4 from PG. god hates me!!

about 99% sure its rod knock.

was the sound happening when you first started her up, or only after you womped on her a little bit?

i see that you only heard it after you got on her.

-this fact alone makes me think that the head didnt ingest anything nor was anything loose. If that were the case then you would have heard then when to began to idle her right after the install.

I would DEFINATELY not drive it. Get a mechanic to look at it.
the ONLY way they can confirm rod knock is to drop the oil pan and see.

For your sake i really hope is isnt, but unfortunately thats what it sounds like.

Stupid Q, but nothing around the back side of your engine is banging on your firewall is it?

we can pretty much eliminate the turbo itself from causing any problem based on a few things - he never exceeded 5psi at his own discretion, the turbo has no shaft play, spools and makes boost, the sound occured not immediately after he went to 5psi - but after he was on his way home. it wouldn't make much sense for a factory sized turbo at 5psi to do damage to a motor when you can run 15psi on something much larger and not damage it.

it sounds alot like a spun rod bearing or walked crank to me, something that lends to the notion that there is feedback in the clutch pedal and that the tone of the sound changes when you depress the clutch.

^^for sure. i think that my engine was barely holding on. especially with the mods and the amount of time i've had then w/o fuel and a tune.

If it is a spun bearing and apparently nothing he did could have been the cause, then that is just poor construction or design from Mazda....

Wouldn't crank walk trigger a CEL since the crank position sensor is no longer reading the crank trigger wheel.
Tell me your kidding right.

Bwaahahahahaahaaaaaa......

Sorry dude...but you just left it out there....and really dont have a clue...I had to.

That sounds like a rod bearing went. too bad too. I wanted to see a review of this turbo.

there will be more reviews to come, we've got a few people getting these very soon

thats not really how crankwalk works, not on this engine i have seen. a crank can walk by mere millimeters and cause damage and not throw off the sensor.

(monkey)(whip) Damnit monkeyboy who the hell keeps letting you out...???

Bump, so what's going on here? Have we gotten any diagnosis? It does sound like a spun rod bearing causing the piston to hit the head. Friend of mine had this issue 2 months ago on a different model car.

last time i spoke with him his mechanic told him it spun a rod bearing.

Do we know the reason behind it? I can't foresee the boost from the turbo being the issue. Most of the time it's from not running enough oil in the car.
We need to get this batch of turbos out, installed, so we can post other reviews because this isn't too appealing to the Mazda community, but sounds like the turbo held up like it should have.

+1

ken is right. the garage told me that i spun a bearing and than proceedingly the rod went throught the block. Now I'm just waiting of the forged parts to come in. I guess I'll be able to fully test the ability of the reworked turbo soon enought. You guys know the funny thing is, I told ken from PG and jordan at CP-E this is exactly what I DIdn'T WANT TO HAPPEN. But oh well, you play with fire long enough and your bound to get burned!!

I find this totally weird. How can he spin a rod? All he did was a turbo. Coincidence is a b****. Just a very random issue here. Please let us know EXACTLY what happens here.
