Finally TSX out 5 in!

I am pretty sure that the 5 has UV glass. No tint, but still UV protection. I am just not sure how much it helps. The reason that the 5 doesn't have tint is that it is certified as a Passenger Car (PC). In the US, the PC class can't have factory tint for whatever reason. Most Vans and CUV/SUVs are not classified as a PC and can therefore offer factory tint.

I guess that would explain it - although on my '08 window sticker, it compared the mileage to the rest of the "minivan" class? Does that mean it's officially a minivan in the eyes of the EPA?

man i would love to see a mazda5 beat a tsx lol
i agree with whoever said it, he probably wasnt tryin to race you..

Then you should have been in my passenger seat so you could witnessed it!

By the time I made the decision to accelerate and pass him, there was nothing he could do. I already had the momentum. He was trying to prevent me from passing him, which in all of motorsports is called racing.

If it was a manual Corvette, he could easily have dropped down a gear and stomped on it and I wouldn't have been able to pass him.

But a TSX doesn't have that much power over an MZ5, and an automatic doesn't have that much flexability in selecting the proper powerband. He probably lost 3 seconds while his transmission figured out what to do. Add to that the 5 seconds or so that I was already accelerating and that's all it ever takes to beat a slightly faster car in a drag race.

Plus he was carrying the extra weight of booming stereo system and I have an intake. So the stock specs aren't the actual 'as run' numbers.

He was racing and I beat him. End of story. If a bench racer wants to recreate this situation, then rent a TSX, send me a PM and come get spanked by a Mazda5.

We will start at 65mph, I will start from behind and the race begins when you figure out that I am gaining on you. Then let you bench racers tell me how impossible it is. (bird)

Okay, so say Im zippin down the passing lane at 90 MPH, and a Z28 sees me coming and doesnt want me to get past him. Just because Im almost on him going way faster already, and his car doesnt even have a chance to get up to speed, I spank him by passing him? Okay, seriously dude, this is pure riceboy talk.

Stop trying to impress us by racing cars with your minivan with a bolt on and impressing us with your 120 MPH sig. Its kind of pathetic, and youre not going to convince ANYONE that you fairly spanked a TSX. Line up with a TSX, go together after 3 honks, then report back. Your car aint fast, neither is mine, neither is ANYONE ELSEs 5 unless you actually do some real work to it (ie, forced induction). Snap out of dreamland, and put your ego on check just a tad when you get behind the wheel.

+4 on that one. rather harsh, but rightly said..

LOL! That makes me think back to some races I did with my Element vs my lil bro's G20. http://youtube.com/watch?v=33h4LMrBdNg

That's not what happened. Try to pay attention.

I was behind him pressing him coming onto the freeway and quickly moved to the HOV lane as we mereged, beating him there. He quickly followed me and was he was tail gating me at 80mph.

When the broken lines appeared, he jumped out and passed me. I continued to maintain my 80mph crusing speed. He jumped back in front of me and slowed down to 65mph. I then backed off a few car lengths and maintained that speed.

As the broken lines appeared and he started to move to the right, I dropped down into 4th and started accelerating. He also started accelerating, but I had the jump on him and I was doing over 100 as I passed him.

So you can ridicule me if it makes you feel better about yourself. My ego can take anything that your ego can throw at it.

Well my bolt on suspension and intake (as opposed to a welded on suspension and intake?) enabled my wagon to gain on him on the on-ramp as we entered the freeway. And he's the one who initiated that 'race'. I could have completed a pass had there been an outside lane.

And like some of you, he seemed to be pretty butt hurt that a socalled 'minivan' was able to keep up with him like that. Because what he did afterwards wasn't fair at all.

I have no problem claiming that I spanked him as I passed him. His intention was not to let me pass. But despite his intentions, I passed him anyway. So using his own rules, I spanked him.

Wrt. to the TSX vs. Mazda5 race:

a)
Getting off-topic, so it is not worth the argument. Just remember, the TSX is out and the MZ5 is in, that's what counts :D

b)
Don't mean to be the party pooper but, while this is not a 100% intentional illegal street race, it is not a track race either, hence let's refrain from further throwing wood to the fire. Please see these forum rules below:

Illegal street racing threads/posts no longer allowed on Mazda Forums

Thanks guys, no further comments on this, let's just move on

I never thought the start to my simple "TSX out 5 in!" would go this far. Back on Topic and three weeks into ownership here is what I have found:
1. TSX has more front seat legroom
2. 5 is on par with TSX as far as low noise at cruise
3. TSX gets a little better gas mileage albeit on premium gas
4. TSX has better stock speakers...albeit at a $10K higher price tag
5. 5 has a smoother throttle application and range
6. Leather is nicer in the 5 than the TSX
7. TSX has a more logical manual shift mode
8. 5 is better looking...subjective I know
9. 5 has easier to clean wheels
10. 5 has a better key fob. TSX uses separate key and fob while Honda Accord gets all in one...go figure
11. 5 has a replaceable radio!!!!!
12. 5 has more rearseat room. The TSX was really a 4 seater for adults
13. 5 has a nicer steering wheel. The 04-05 TSX had a thin wheel, 06+ is thicker
14. TSX has a more harmonized interior light scheme. The white dash and green center stack is odd
15. 5 has auto-open sunroof. TSX has auto up and down driver window. I do wonder why the 5 can't have an auto close sunroof...my rental Ford Focus has one.

That's about all I can think of for now. I am still happy with my decision to go from Acura to Mazda. I still think the GT is a bargain for what you get. The only things I really gave up were power seats, dual zone climate control, Vehicle Skid Assist (I live in Texas, not much need), Traction Control (I live in Texas, not much need), 47HP, Fancy interior lights, Dual exhaust, ability to close the windows with the door key (used twice...because I was bored), ability to open all windows with keyfob (used often on hot days) and the need to buy premium gas. If they would make a Hybrid 5 I would be very happy. My wife has a 2004 Prius that she gets an honest 49 MPG average in even with 51K miles. Totally reliable. I would have bought one...but I like sunroofs :-)

8. 5 is better looking...subjective I know
I knew it! :D. J/k, the only thing I can say is that Mazda did a very good design job on a car like this. I've would never thought that a car with sliding doors could look nice

9. 5 has easier to clean wheels
Funny, that is what I like from the 06 compared to the 08, but yeah, spokes help cleaning the wheels quickly. I give them a quick clean pass every couple of days or so.

10. 5 has a better key fob. TSX uses separate key and fob while Honda Accord gets all in one...go figure
You are not alone, while completely irrational, I fell in love with the key fob when I first test drove the Mazda5 (see pic, I took it when I rented another Mazda5 the other day)

15. 5 has auto-open sunroof. TSX has auto up and down driver window. I do wonder why the 5 can't have an auto close sunroof...my rental Ford Focus has one.
It was either done to save on costs or maybe because the MZ5 is a family hauler (silly safety kids rules or something, that is for sure)...

our honda fit had a single key/fob thing. But it was much clunkier because the key didn't fold into it, so it made for quite a long thing to have in your pocket.

I already have a long thing in my pocket.
