Cobalt SS Ring record 8:22.85 & 103mph in the 1/4

I'm not trying to take anything away from GM's victory with the new SS. I think they finally did a good job.

However, I think it's more of a threat to the GTI/Civic Si market than us. Refinement refinement refinement. We have way more of that than any GM, no matter how fast. American companies couldn't make money if they made a car with fit and finish like an import.

Agreed !!

Who leaves these kinda of cars stock? They are tuner cars.

My point is that who actually cares if it might be a little faster "stock" than a MS3.

I'm just glad it is also direct injection....the more cars that adapt this technology, the better our chances companies will invest more time into understanding tuning solutions....

Congrats to Chevy... At least we were King for a little while.

Define "King"

It's like everyone has thrown their hands up in defeat because it traps 3mph higher than a stock MS3 according to Motor Trend.

Just because it might be a little quicker doesn't mean it's the "KING" of sport compacts.

I could actually care less if stock for stock the chevy might be a little faster but it's funny listening to some of your comments.

I wasn't trying to define King as an all encompassing statement on the world of sub-25K compact cars. I also don't want to run out and sell my MS3 and get a Cobalt. I was simply saying that the MS3 was the "King" of being the fastest (0-60) car in our little niche. Now, that is not the case. We are now number 2. Deal with it...

My god...people are seriously butt hurt about this?

Out of curiosity, when did our cars become King? They never were. The Speed3, the Cobalt SS, SRT4s...these are toys and nothing more. When its faster than a Veyron or Aero SSC or can out handle a Porsche GT3 and has the refinement of an Audi, give me a ring. Until then, I say again, good on you GM. Nothing like some healthy competition.

That is exactly why I clarified by saying our little niche. I was never hurt or bothered by this at all. My God, the Honda Accord V6 and the Camry V6 both beat a MS3 0-60. Clearly, I can appreciate this car (and the MS3) for its relative dominance in its appropriate market segment. That is what I meant by King. (Of a really small pond....)

The (0-60) times are too close to call. It would be a driver's race anyway

Deal with what?

Sorry but the Accord and Camry V6 DO NOT run 0-60 faster than a MS3. Where are you coming up with this crap?? Since when does a Accord and Camry run 0-60 faster than 5.4 secs???? I would be damned if an Accord or Camry beat me in a 0-60 sprint.

Coming from you this doesn't really surprise me. You're the same one that says that a BMW with 225hp "walks" a MS3 easily.

There's a lot of none MS3 owners on here making ridiculous statements that don't have any value

And? The MS3 does 0-60 in 5.4 what is your point?

Dude, take a chill pill, I was supporting your statement.

Listen the MS3 is a nice quick car, but there are plenty others that are better, don't be oblivious to that...

The difference in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are because of the Cobalt's 5 speed and that you need to shift it one less time.

The Cobalt ring time was done in a car that at the very least had a racing seat and 5 point belts in it. Those alone would make a huge difference for the driver being able to control the car better. I am starting to get sick of hearing all the cars being compared by their ring times. Different drivers on different days with differeing amounts of "traffic" all result in a very unreliable number.

It would be cool for one of the Mags to do a comparo test of a bunch of performance cars at the ring all under the same conditions to see how different each is.

You sir... are a fool. Check your stats.... Your ad hominem attack about the BMW means nothing... Yes... Camry's and Honda's will beat us! They cost more... I can accept that. Why can't you? (Notice the Camry tied on 0-60 and beating us on the 1/4) STOCK vs. STOCK

Takes the skill out of driving. (notcool)
The damn thing does everything for you! You don't have to launch, power-shift or anything! That is the fun in that??? Sure it's fast but it requires almost zero driving ability.
as opposed to the MS3 which is a purely mechanical driving experience

So wait, I have one question that may solve all our arguments here!

This test compares the Nurburgring Nordschlife lap time. So, qustion:

Who the hell actually drives the 'Ring on the way to work everymorning?
