$3.66/gal and 21.7mpg city

I am happy to see someone that I can agree with (drinks). There has been been a lot of "were all doomed" speculation going around lately, and frankly I'm just sick of people crying all the time. If people actually use facts and real data, together with some kind of economic education (something above elementary grade education, think more college econ class or such) you begin to realize this is a cyclical process. But I don't want to go off on a tangent about this, since this thread is about gas prices.

Now back on topic, the last time I filled up my MP3 with a full tank of 93 octance it cost me $50.xx. I remember when about 5-7 years ago you could almost fill up your F-350 for that much.

I just cringe when I got to the lake and it cost me $400 to fill up my boat! Needless to say won't be using it much this year.

You can be sucessful. This is still the land of opportunity, as long as we don't run all the buisnesses out of this country. We have to have jobs. Some would say that these companies polute and treat there employees badly but running them out only sends them to countrys were they can polute even more and pay their employess less. When the politicians "do something about it" only makes it worst. We are here now in part because of politicians.

Drill in ANWAR and eastern Gulf.

Build refineries.

Conserve the best we can.

Stop turning our food into fuel. Corn into fuel is very inefficent. Now we are paying more for our food as well as our fuel. Politicians, "doing something"

Move closer to your work. My wife and I live within 3 miles of our jobs.

Use CF light bulbs in your house.

Turn the thermostate down and put on a sweat shirt.

Oh, And only go joy riding in the 3 on days that end with y

WE WILL BE FINE. WE ARE AMERICA.

Scott.

Thankfully I live real close to work and family is only 10 miles away roughly. I'm switching to a MS3 (from my TBSS) to save on gas and finances. CF bulbs are a great option and we use them actually. Won't need to thermostat much once this weather warms up.

But that's the attitude, we're going to be okay, it's gonna get fixed.

I have CF Bulbs almost everywhere in my house. 98% efficient furnace, energy star doors etc etc.... Still have a 300 heating bill.

The U.S. is a great place to live it's just that the American dream was trying to be obtained by bad credit and horrible loans...hmm when was the last time we used a whole lot of credit to obtain wealth when there really was none? 1929? That makes me feel a little uneasy only gas was cheaper (the equivalent of $2.50 Cents today) wait that makes me feel even worse...

My house is only 1400 sq ft. 3 BD 2B ranch, w/1 car garage. Elec, water, sewer and garbage on one bill. $300 last month but that is as high as it has ever been. Not bad for all those services. We keep our house cool in winter, some might even say cold. It will be $150 soon once the heater is not in use. I'm in KY and things are cheaper here than out west or in big cities. Alot of those extra cost are due to government "doing something".

Scott.

What I find most funny about this is how we in America seriously took for granted how cheap we had gas...

We just had a guy from England move into our engineering group, he said that over there, gas was regularly over 6$ a gallon. One of the first things he did when he arrived was to purchase an Jeep Liberty. He said that in England only the Millionaires could afford them. Over there everyone drives smaller cars, focus's, golf's, mini's, because the gas is so expensive. Here, sadly, the smaller luxary hatches suffer, no one wants to pay 40k for a small car when they could buy a giant truck or SUV with bling...

I like it how everyone blames jobs moving out of America as the chief problem of our current economic crisis (and the argument about immigration). Manufacturing (large scale) has been out of America since the 1950's... It moved to Mexico. Wages there increased as workers united, manufacturing moved to China. China became too expensive so work moved to India. Now India is becoming too expensive so companies are pulling out and moving into Eastern Europe and Indochina. They will leave enormous buildings, less than five years old, vacant because people will line up and work all day for less than a quarter. If you want to get mad at something, get mad at the bigger manufacturing companies that move into regions, exploit the labor, and leave, crashing the artificially created economy.

So what if gas is going up 1$? At least you have a job. At least you can buy food.

Remember, there's no such thing as a recession if you have a job....

All I really have to say on the whole matter is this. Im just gonna try and live it up and have the most fun I can possibly have. Cause everything, regardless of what it is just seems to keep getting worse and worse. Whats sad is that we will prolly look back and wish gas was 3.46 a gal. Im only 24 years old... and either its been this bad the entire time or I just havent been paying attention, 1 of the 2, maybe both. Cause I remember when I thought 2.00 a gal was rediculous, and that was like a couple years ago I believe. All I know is that since Bush has taken office... our economy, our deficit, our image, everything that was once ours under every other president has gone in the shitter. Now Im not saying I know everything or even a lot. And even though this may just be a cycle, and things will get better later on. How bad are things gonna get before that happens.. Cause at the rate everything is going.. we are either gonna end up with 20 bucks a gal for gas or none of this will matter cause the economy will crash and go into a super deep depression, that will take years to recover from. All I know is that im scared shitless to see where we are as a country when Im older and in my 40's 50's 60's.

I agree with most of this points...but I have one question for all of you that claim we are at war. Do you really think we are at war? If so, what are we fighting for? I mean come on guys, there is no "WAR". Just some asshole that has an agenda as well as all politicians. They all have an agenda. Just sick an tired of people stating that this crisis we are in is because of the "war". Its all bulls***.

ok its not a war. We are just paying trillions to occupy Iraq and Afghanistan. Were are we getting the money to pay for this. The printing press no where else. Guess what that means, A dollar that is worth nothing. It has no buying power therefor it looks like everything is getting so expensive when in reality its inflation. Look at what gas cost before the "War on Terror" started.

my first tank of gas was right around $.90/gallon, and I remember my parents bitching about how expensive that was. I am in a bad spot with gas, cuz either I take the truck which takes about 30 gallons (~$100) to fill or the ms3 that takes about $45 to fill a tank less than half the size. Its crazy, when are we gonna start making more money to make up for this? Something tells me my 3% cost of living annual raise isnt gonna help this year

I'm giving the middle finger to Kuwait and the American oil companies. I don't know how long it'll take to break even, but I went out and bought a 1994 Kawasaki Ninja 250 for $1100. They range between 55 and 70 mpg depending on how you like to ride, but that's better than the sub-20 mpg I was getting around town in my MS6. When you take wear & tear and maintenance into account, I think it was a pretty good investment. It's win-win. Much better gas mileage, less pollution and my car gets to sit in the garage instead out in Texas' brutal spring and summer weather.

I want to see all of you bright, intelligent, and free thinking people in my off-topic threads! It would be a welcome change from the onslaught of doubters that I always run up against in there.

Anyway, someone brought up Europe and the oil cost there. Keep in mind, Europe's major player, England, has already fallen to the Zionists. They pretty much own all major businesses there, and have turned most of England into a nanny-state. Those who know England know there is a city-state called the City of London, a separate, tax-free city that houses just a few people. This place is the monetary powerhouse of the world. The Zionists control it, primarily the Rothschilds and Warburgs, if I remember correctly. They have incredible influence on just about anything in Europe. Fuel prices is one of those things. The Euro is a currency (without competition now) that is directly controlled by Zionists exactly like the Federal Reserve (remember, they are not part of the Federal Government despite the name) is on us here in the states.

There is PLENTY of oil in the world right now. There is a massive deposit below the Rockies, and plenty of wells in Oklahoma and Texas. There's a few Trillion tons in Asia Minor. The problem is that Warburg and other Zionists pretty much OWN it all, and they also control the money supply in Europe, America, and many other places with fiat money. This means that if they suddenly want oil to be outrageously expensive, then voila! it is so. This power can be used exactly like an arm-bar wrestling move against the population, forcing them to bow down.

What we need is a way to clear out the few people who try to pull this punk stuff on us as a People (and in this case, I mean People as in World.) The best way I can think to do that is to restore our money supply to the People, not a corporation or a set of banks overseas as it is now. By restoring the supply as intended in the Constitution, we can then restore value to our currency. By doing that, commodities like food, gas, electricity will drop in price rapidly. The other thing needed is a non-sanctioned, free-trade relationship with all countries. No politics, no CIA-based underhanded moves, just making clean business deals with other countries.

I know this is all complex, which is precisely why I encourage discussion of it off-topic in my thread and others. Though we are a small community, we are diverse, and perhaps we can find a way through the mess after all.

Powerful stuff, man -- bravo.

Try working for a company like Ford! Think we're getting any 3% raise this year? (hah)

... I was talking to a guy today that works at the Chrysler plant making Dodge Trucks and Vans. He was saying that it's cheaper to produce in Canada since they don't have to pay overtime. As long as there is unemployment noone gets overtime, now I don't know if that true maybe someone from Canada can chime in. And they outsourced their diesel engine production to Mexico.
I don't know where Chrysler is sourcing their labor from, but the CAW is even more stringent than the UAW here in the states. I've spent considerable time this year at our Ford Edge plant in Ontario, and if the guys there weren't getting paid overtime, there would be mutiny!

Some random points.

1. Jobs are outsourced ot other countries becuase PRODUCTION is cheaper, not just waged. First off, most of the people in China and such have no unions, no insurance, and no workmans comp so if they get hurt..the company could not care less. Also there are no regulations agains any type of exposures to hazerdous conditions so again they can hande chemicals, be in loud and unsafe factories all day and the manufacture will never be fined for it. Also in chine you can POLUTE like crazy! This is a huge cut to manufacturing costs.

2. A major reason jobs were outsourced in the first place is UNIONS! Again, we the common man, not the government made insane demands on companies to the point that we put ourselves out of work...Nice move Detroit!

3. If you have a MS3 or CX7 and have a problem with gas prices, go slap yourself, you could have bought a car with more then twcie the MPG you get and on a lower octane. I for one have a V8 tundra so I have to laugh histericly at myself.

4. There is a great deal of production done in the US. It is in fact coming back in many ways. Although the company is usualy owned by a company based internationaly. Think Honda and Toyota who own factories here and were one of the reasons I bought a Tundra over an F150. Since they dont have to deal with the unions mentioned above, they can produce their cars much cheaper here then GM and Chrysler can, who outsource to Mexico and Canada.

5. We as a society are setting the Elasticity of the Supply and Demand on oil right now. If we had been truely outraged and modivated over 2 years ago when gas first hit $3/gallon and collectively stopped buying SUVs and sportier vehicles then we truely require, then gas would have fell in price. However the majority of us just complained and kept driving and buying cars that can be classified as worthless in the MPG department.

6. No rais efor me in 2 years. I am not given s***, I have to ask for it and be ready to resign if I dont get it.

7. I want a bumper sticker that says "I DRIVE THIS TRUCK BECUASE YOU DRIVE A PRIUS!"

That didnt make sense to me either as Canada is rather strict on stuff like this. The real reason they dont manufacture in the US is to avoid the UAW.

While I won't critisize you for saying we should buy Atoms (shouldn't we all have a car this fun to drive?), but I have a friend with one. Check out his website:
http://www.evilatom.com/faq.html
He lists that the best he's ever got was 27 mpgs. Which isn't bad, but not that great either. I wouldn't want to go out and spend $40,000+ on this car with the hopes of getting great gas mileage.

The economy is not in bad shape. Unemployment is low, inflation is low, but going up, more people own homes than ever before, interest rates are low as well. I can remember 12 percent inflation, 18 percent interest and 8 percent unemployment when Jimmy Carter was president. No mater how good we seem to have it people always think things are bad. If you watch CNN you would think the sky is falling and America is the worst nation on the planet.

I have a brother In Law that spent 25 years in the miltary and traveled all over the world. He says you really don't appreciate what you have until you travel to other countries and see how they live. We pay less for food, as a percent of our income, than any other peoples that have ever lived. This is why we are so fat. We are complaning about the price of fuel for our cars when some people around the world are wondering what they will eat tomorrow. Things are good people. You are alive, your belly is full and the sun still shines. Stop watching CNN, the sky is not falling. I'm going out for a 6 mile run now, the sky is blue the sun is shinning and it's 68 degrees. When I get back I'm going to clean up and go cruising in my 3. Damn, It's good to be alive.

Scott
