HORRIBLE crunching/creeking noise from suspension on my Speed!!?!?

Hey Je5ter, I have only ever seen one other one. And it is right by my work, 12th ave and 13th street sw. Is that you?

If not, then there are 3 in the city that I know of. I really love it. I have my rims off right now so it looks the same as a mazda 3 and for some reason people always take off on me. Then its a surprise when they figure out its a speed hehehee..

Anyways.. yes please post I will check the post tomorrow.

Also.. ECU recall?

Yea that would be me, I don't live to far from there and work close to there as well. I just dropped the car off so they can have it as cold as possible in the morning, the damn thing is it really hasnt been doing it the last couple days, wtf?!?!? i hope they hear it tomorrow coz when it does make the sound its god aweful. Anyhow I was confused its not an ECU recall but some emissions recall, I got the letter in the mail last week.

haha.. crazy :)
I watched you pull out your the alley when we were walking back from Chianti's. Okay, so I only know two in the city . Mind and yours. I think it looks the best in White.. I'm going to be tinting my windows sometime soon.

Alright, well let me know what they say. I never received any letters for emissions? I sit just a specific VIN range that has this recall? But I did think my exhaust had a bit too much carbon residue on it.. who did the letter come from? Mazda themselves, dealership, leasing company? Mine did it yesterday when my ambient temperature said -10 but only once. I really do think -15 is the magic number and it does it like crazy when it gets down that cold.

Hope to see your post soon. I am calling them now. You're doing it with North Hill right?

Yea with North Hill.. It would actually make me feel better if you did call them because they were thinking I was full of BS when I was dropping it off last night.. I'm I'm pretty sure it would not have made the sound this morning because it was too warm out... I"m still waiting for their call... and yea that would have totally been me pulling out of my alley :P

Haha. Cool. So back down to two! Small world.

The only thing is I purchased the car from Kramer. I know as far as the warranty is concerned it doesn't mean anything as long as it is a Mazda dealer. Of course they think you're full of s*** because suspension is never cheap to fix.
I'm trying to hold out to see what North Hill says. But when you say they though you were full of s*** I'm pretty sure I'll get the same response from all of them.

And of course they said they could not hear anything and offered me a ride with the service manager.. which I would take up one day but by the time i would drive my car there the vehicle would have warmed up and the sound be gone.. Thats why I left it there last night..... Anyways you should give them a call and see what they say, so there is at least another speed3 owner calling in with the same complaint and they dont think I'm a crack head....

This is happening with my speed 3 here in Utah as well. My fear is that they will replace the bushings or whatever it is and the same thing will happen when the new ones get cold. I am glad though that this is not an isolated problem with just mine and that other people are sharing my frustration. It would be better if there were no problem at all but just glad that its only mine that is having a weird case of the cold clanking. Best of luck to you guys up in Canada.

crackling suspension noise

i drive a mazdaspeed protege and in cold weather my suspension also makes a crackling sound. im not sure what it might be...any help?

They shouldn't think you're a crackhead, I mentioned this to them last week. I'm going to bring it up again as I have to go back there soon (had to wait for rsb parts to come in). Maybe if a few of us can keep up the pressure they'll figure something out. Mazda eventually solved the block heater issue for our cars, maybe with time they'll make a bushing fix.

I think the speed 3 has way stiffer upper mounts. They are noisy when cold in my speed to. I had a reguler 3; when i put coilovers on it things got a little noisier, even in the summer. The point is i don't mind a little nvh if we get higher pereformance (stiffer) upper mounts. This is a perforamance edition. The go fast guys at mazdaspeed won this battle with the nvh engineers. They lost the battle with them when it came to the rear engine mounts. They are to soft for performance but great for nvh levels. It would be a sacrafice if they put the softer reguler 3 upper mounts in your car so it does'nt creek for five minutes when its -20.

I was having this same problem all last winter anytime the temps would drop below 15-20F. After what must have been 3 or 4 trips to the dealer, and them not being able to hear the sound because the car was fully warmed up by the time I got there, or the temps were too warm on nights I left it there, I finally convinced them to replace the bushings. Now, a year later, the sound is still there! I'm pretty annoyed about this whole situation and just wish there was some sort of definitive fix. Does anyone have anymore information on this? If it's not my bushings what is it?

for what it's worth i have a 08 ms3 with about 1400km on it and i'm getting the horrible blown shock sound from my front suspension when the car is cold. some days, when it's -30 or so all day, the sound doesn't go away at all. (i live in ottawa, canada, so, yeah, cold).

the sound is very annoying and does indeed sound exactly like my old Protege5 suspension, which had two badly blown shocks for the last month of its life.
everyone who rides in my car keeps telling me it's broken. not cool.

funny thing though, i'm hesitant to bring it into the dealer, not just because they'll probably **** around and take forever to tell me nothing's wrong with the car, but because even if they did do anything i wouldn't trust them to do the right thing.

so, in the end, i'm just going to monitor this thread and see if anyone comes up with a fix. on that note, has anyone managed to eliminate the noise?

speaking of broken shocks, during one of the many visits i had with the dealer last year about this very issue, they informed me that one of my shocks was leaking and they went ahead and replaced it under warranty. mind you this was after only having the car for 3000 miles! i'm wondering if it's possible that a year later, yet another shock has gone, and for whatever reason the cold air really makes this apparent.

Yeah. It just goy cold here in Minnesota as well and on our first sub 0 day I heard this horrible noise. I was pretty shocked. I have to bring this piece in to the dealership in a week or so to have them look at my smoking turbo, so I will ask about the bushing fix as well. This is all getting pretty ridiculous. I have some mods sitting around that I want to install, but I anticipate I will have to have this thing in to the dealership every other month until the warranty period is up so I am afraid to put them on. Oh, I have the squeeky dash as well.

I have a just started noticing a creaking sound (mostly passenger front) when I drive over bumps. I first heard it about two days ago when the temperature dipped below 10 deg F. (New London, CT). It is up to 14 deg F. this morning and the creaking is still present over bumps. I am due for an oil change and tire rotation and I will defintly mention it to the dealer. Who knows if enough people have the same problem perhaps Mazda will do something about it?

Mention it all you want.. They have "never heard of it before"................... Oh and it seems this last week or so I have developed a creeking in my dash near the lower part of the window, is there is a fix for this yet??

Anyone have any luck with this yet?? Its -44 here with windchill and I can't take this sound anymore!!!! It sounds like the car is going to break in half and is VERY embarrassing!
