(attn) clutch issues.

same thing happened to me at the track. Was trying to control wheelspin by feathering the clutch. stupid. felt like all my gears went out, when I gave it gas, engine would just rev up and no power would be applied to the wheels at all.

I smelled burnt clutch pretty bad for a few days, but its fine now, clutch is probably quite a bit more worn now than it was before, but I'm not noticing any major problems.

If you are going to drive your car hard like this and abuse the clutch, get a stronger one that can take it, the stock clutch is not meant to be abused so badly.

yeah i'm getting ready to buy one, if the mazda wont replace mine, just dont know which one is the "best buy".. ?

just kidding around i'm sure your car is fine you probably just knocked the clutch out of allingment or something. I don't see how doing that one thing could ruin your clutch

"you probably just knocked the clutch out of allingment or something." -- how does that happen and how can i fix that? also would adjusting my clutch make any difference?

mine still operates fine and feels the same prior to me burning it. i ran 3 more passes down the track after doing that and improved my time with each time down. only thing bothering me is the smell.

i almost want to call the dealer up and be like my car smells like the clutch is burnt after shutting it off under normal driving conditions with no clutch failure.

I don't know how to ajust it, maybe the car is fine its easy to create symtoms. the placebo affect..

i think what they'll do is take it all apart, discover the burn marks and tell you that it was your fault and charge you to put it all back together.. and thats what i'm afraid of doing.

lol i know for sure it is not fine.. its so much slower now. (sad1) i dunno, i'll just go there on wensday and let them reprogram my cpu, if that does nothing, i'll ask them to adjust my clutch, if that does nothing, then i'll ask them if they can replace my clutch (if its under warranty), if that doesnt work, i'll just go and buy myself a new clutch.

If you are looking into an aftermarket clutch, as far as I know, the SPEC clutches are the only ones currently out for us.

You can have someone at the dealership drive your car before taking apart your transmission. Then they will either say "yup, something is messed up" or they will say "no, its fine, quit worrying"

So far I've had a very good experience with mazda techs. And if you don't trust them, maybe get another speed3 owner around your area to drive it and give you his impression to see if he thinks its slower than his :o)

The only thing that I can think of that would make it slower is if the clutch is not fully engaging, or if it is slipping. If thats the case, you will notice symptoms similar to what I described in my previous post, about what happened at the track. If the clutch isn't slipping, its probably just placebo. It happens to me all the time, after my filter fell off I swore my car was way slower, but then found out it was really just my imagination playing tricks on me.

If all else fails, take it to a track and see what you run.

Hope some of that info helps :\

thanks man. i've heard though that SPEC clutches suck, so..
oh and the thing i'm most afraid of if they'll take it apart, find someting wrong with it and make me pay them to put it all back together.

i read on a bmw forum after searching google that it could take almost 1000 shifts or more at normal operating ranges to de-glaze a clutch face if that did happen. Usually its recommended to take it out for a couple decent highway drives, maybe like a half hour or an hour.

hmm ^ anyone else's thought on that? :)

Which dealer are you gona go to? dont go to the one on 290, i have never heard anything good about them. My previous mazda came away leaking oil from a loose drain plug, thats the only experiance i have with those guys.

thats the one i'm gonna go to lol, how'd you know?
i can take it to any mazda dealer and get them to check it out under warranty?

i seriously wish i knew why my clutch still smells 2 weeks after all has been said and done, its driving me nuts.

i go to jeff hass on 10 and beltway 8. I find them to be honest, meaning if they can fix it under warrenty they will, if they cant they will let you know. Good luck with who ever you go to.

Yes you can go to any dealer in the U.S.
