First Oil Change in the MS3...

Hey guys,

What are your thoughts about changing the OEM oil to synthetic at less than 1500 miles...?

I am planning to go with 5W-30 Amsoil since they have the "logo" that Mazda recommends...instead of Redline. I'm planning Redline MT-90 for the tranny.

I've been reading that 100% synthetic is not recommended before 5,000 miles since the engine is not settled...

Somehow, I don't believe that. I believe the engine is broken in in less than 1,000 miles. Plus 100% synthetic does not inhibit engine wear...the engine still wears, but its just better protected...

What do you guys think? I'm planning to change my fluids this weekend!!

Thanks (thumb)

Do it. It's broken in as much as it needs to be. Feed that turbo some syn. Good choice on the MT90 too....you'll like the shift quality.

Did I read something about the first oil change needing to be around 1,000 miles on the MS3? Couldn't find anything in my manual saying that.

No, manual says something like 5K if IIRC...? Standard oil interval on a turbo car is 3k...IIRC. lol

I'm torn between using Amsoil or Redline in the engine... Do you guys see any advantage, etc...in using one over the other.
I know both these oils are top notch...better than any typical off the shelf oil.

My dealer gave me 5K dino oil changes for as long as I own the car. That means that I have to provide my own synthetic oil(M1 5W-30), but I still think that it's a pretty good deal.

So I replaced my fluids...
I had to go with AMSOIL 5W-30 this time around...Redline was out of stock. And I put MT-90 in the tranny...NICE...smooth...buttery... :)

Next one will be 5W-30 Redline though...

A dealership I went to told me that if I put Redline MT90 into the tranny, that would void my warranty if something went wrong.

I just had my first change at 4700 a few days ago. I think I'll do it myself next time or at least give them the synthetic to put in it.

How will they know thats what you put in it...? Its the same color and I doubt they have the analyzing equipment there to test the fluid...

Just do it; I did it and its shifts a lot better!!! Much smoother.
I've done it to all my Mazdas...

Redline MT90 is a 75W90 GL-4 oil, which is exactly what the owner's manual specifies. They cannot void your warranty for using non-dealer parts that match the manufacturer's specification.

Now, if you had put a fluid in there that did not meet the spec, then they very well could refuse warranty repair.
