Speed6 bucking

I recently took my 2006 Speed6 to my dealer for an issue with the car seeming to buck while driving normally. When I hit the gas to accelerate, the car would hesitate and buck, as if it were going to stop or stall. They said there was a software update that was issued and I wasn't informed. They performed the upgrade, but said it may take a week for it to "go away" as the car had to "re-learn" how I drive. After 2 weeks now, it is still doing it. It is very noticeable when cruising at 65 and accelerating to pass. Anyone know what could be the issue or have similiar issues? I am hoping its not too serious as I absolutely love this car! Thanks

I get a similar problem when I'm in first, sometimes when I start to accelerate in first and then brake or take my foot off the accelerator when I give it gas again the car starts to chug or buck pretty badly until I shift into second then no problem. This doesn't happen every time I drive but fairly often and I only run 94 octane so I have no idea what the problem could be.

My Protege5 does that also dutchbuffalo...as does almost every 4cyl car I have driven. If you are rolling through a parking lot you should be in 2nd or neutral. The only standard car I have driven that did not do this was a 93 Audi A4 V6.

I think it has to do with the fuel injection and how it attempts to save fuel when you take your foot off the gas. You can reduce the bucking by never taking your foot completely off the pedal or by pushing the clutch in when you coast.

I have this issue as well. Like you stated, I find it most noticeable when I'm cruising at highway speeds and attempt to accelerate (without downshifting) to pass a car. The car hesitates, bucks, and accelerates much slower then normal.

When fueling, I use the highest octane possible (usually 93....sometimes 92). So, I have my doubts that this is related to fuel quality.

I haven't taken my car to the dealership, yet, because this has only happened 4 times in the last 2,000 miles (I highly doubt they can reproduce it and they really don't seem to know much about the MS6) and I don't have a CEL. So, I'm just waiting for the problem to become worse.

after the reflash (which is what the dealer updated) try pulling your neg. battery cable for like 10 minutes, then reconnect it.

this just may help

I always use 93 octane, it gets nothing but that every fill up. There is no Check Engine Light that comes on either. The dealer said if the problem persists, they would have to do "extensive research" to find the issue. I will try the battery thing to see if it helps.

Fraz....that is exactly how mine reacts. I do not downshift, and it does the same hesitation/buck when passing. I am going to take it back in to have it looked at, and I will post what they find. Thanks.

Not sure if it's the same case, but as mine hesitated, and i could feel parts of the car shaking violently...then it's fine after i let go of the gas and try again..has been having this several times in a month

My dealer told me they can't replicate, i asked them to look at the fuel pump, and they said it's perfectly fine...

Recently i re-set my ECU (disc. battery), and it's my 4th full tank of gas now (estimated) and it isn't bucking as often as before...but still is there, when i least expected it.

Get your O2 sensor checked...

Check this thread:

(starting @ Posting #95...)

I had a similar problem earlier in the year, and it turned out to be a bad O2 sensor... Same hesitation, bucking, and rough running, especially as you add in the throttle.

All was fixed for free (got a new downpipe and catalyst out of it.) Follow my (denhabr) postings and you may have some more insights as to what you may be encountering. BTW, there was no CEL...they had to hook it to the analyzer in order to see that the sensor was shot...

Good luck.

Also, if you have had any work done around your TMIC check all the connections to make sure that you don't have a boost leak as this behaviour sounds suspicially like a boost leak as well. It is certainly not limited to a boost leak, but that will also give you behaviour like this.

Going to the shop.....

I am taking my car in to the dealer on thursday. It seems that I have lost ALL TURBO at this point. I have no power at all. Even when I punch it at 3k+ RPM's, I get no response, and my gas mileage has gone through the roof. I averaged 28 MPG's on my last tank. So, I am hoping there is just a leak somewhere, but it's bad. I will post my findings when I get it back. Thank you all for the responses, but nothing seemed to work.

Well, I have my car back, and I can't believe what was found. They were able to re-create the issue I am having at highway speeds and the "bucking" when accelarating. When they brought it back in to do diagnostic work, they found that the knock sensor was producing no results. It all pointed to Low Octane fuel, which made the car shift to "safe" mode. I informed them I only use 93, and it has been determined for the time being, that the station I most frequent apparently has a lower grade fuel than posted. I added some Octane Boost per their rec and tried it out, and for now it seems to work fine. No more bucking, but it makes me wonder what is going on with the gas in the station tanks. I have been told that premium fuel when it has sat for a long time it will lose Octane, but it certainly makes me suspicious. So Franz, try adding some Octane boost and it may just work. They did check everything else like O2 sensor and for leaks and the knock sensor, and they were all fine. A CEL would have been thrown if there was an issue with those. So I am back in action and if anything changes, I will post again.

hmm. what brand of gasoline do you typically use?

I think I've experienced this a few times now over the past 2-3 weeks.

1 time in 5th gear, going up hill. around 3000 rpm, 100 kph, tried to accelerate easy, engine power died, bucked, I let go of peddle, she was fine. Highway driving at the time.

2nd time: 3rd gear, also at 3k rpm, maybe 60 kph, uphill again, same thing during accel

3rd: 5th gear, again uphill doing about 100kph.

WTF? So, if I'm reading this it's

1. Bad gas.
2. O2 sensor
3. Fuel pump
4. Hose on turbo/intecooler.

Yes. It could any one of those things, but now I have a new development. I have now gone through 3 tanks of premium gas at a station the dealer recommended, all with full bottles of Octane Boost added to them, and I encountered the bucking again only 3 days after getting the car back. Once again, it is going in for the 3rd time regarding this problem. I will post again when I know more.

Sounds like what Blackcherry06 was experiencing, a bad coil pack. Good luck with the repairs and please keep us updated. Thanks.
