Jump on this so you have the least amount of downtime.

Thanks Jeff but I'm just going to throw the Illuminas back on the rear when I send the stock ones in.

I'm still not sure if I'll have the money this season, but I'm trying. I'm even thinking of throwing in the towel after Milwaukee. Granted I tried something new and completely screwed up the car, but even if I can get the brakes working the way I need to, I get the wet build, and I get lighter weight wheels, I still think there will be too big of a gap between the MSP and the ITR(now the TT too). Even the Crossfire is showing up as a contender. Steve Bambauch is even getting worried now. I had my foot to the floor on most of Sundays course but there's no power there. The MSP is so underpowered.

Ok, Brian, sit back and take a deep breath. You're just discouraged right now. You've done alot to the car and it isn't propelling you to the top of the pack. Well, sure, that happens to all of us. See my results from Atwater this year... 2 seconds behind the leader.

My advice: Go back to your best setup and just concentrate on getting seat time. Stop fiddling with the car and just get tuned into the way it is now. Learn how the car reacts to your inputs and practice keeping the car right on the edge of adhesion 100% of the time. Talk with John Tak about how the car feels to him and what he's doing in various elements compared to what you're doing. Relax and enjoy the ride. Take pleasure in getting better and having fun and getting to hang out with alot of other car nuts. Repeat: have fun with it; smile; enjoy it. Don't beat yourself up.

I'll be at Nationals for the first time this year. Got a ride in John Ma's new 07 Mini S. Come on over and swap car stories. Should be fun!

Thanks for the encouragement but it's over for my MSP. It's gone into autocross retirement... at least while I own it, which I hope isn't for too long. I've put it up for sale on the sccaforums and some local autocross forums. i'd like to see it go to someone who is going to race it. I've even thought about keeping it and using it for road racing but I really want to get into something that's rear wheel drive or maybe all wheel drive. I'm looking at Miatas right now for either CSP or STS2. I may even get an RX8.

It wasn't Milwaukee that made me throw in the towell it was the head gasket I blew after Milwaukee. I put so much money in that car the last couple months it cleaned me out... and I didn't even get to put any mods in it. I spent a bunch of money to keep it stock and fix all the parts that go bad on the MSP, which is a lot.

Maybe if I don't sell it I'll give it another try next year.

We have some other issues with the MSP. The brakes kept going into "Ice Mode" for both of us, I had wheel spin like crazy (that's one of my driving issues), I felt like the car was slower with the new WGA, and I completely screwed John out of a 3rd place win with fuel starvation. John had fuel issues on his last two laps on Sunday when he was loading the car into the turns (I'm still working on being able to turn the car like John can). I thought we were good with a third of a tank but I was wrong. It got down to just over a quarter and John was getting fuel starvation. From now on we are running a half a tank always.

Hey guys,

Just to share my last autox weekend experience. I'm running 4 225-40-17 hoosiers A6 and had big issue with that ICE MODE for last 4 events. Since I'm eating sidewalls like crazy, I kept front pressure @ 48 psi HOT. That was the mistake. Apparently, It's better to climb on sidewall few turns in a run than having no brakes 60% on the time. I lowered the pressure to 43 PSI hot and now this car brakes like crazy. I also shaved 2 sec on a 100 sec run. Unfortunatly, it's still not enough to be faster than a G35 running 255 hoosiers A6 on a fast course (over 110 Km/h peak speed) (sad1). Oh I use OEM mazda pads front and rear.

What tire pressure are you guys running ?

My car is finally running again after being down since oct 05 and of course the first thing I did after breaking in the engine was take it to the local autox.

Course layout was like this.
Aug_12_2007.jpg

I had some trouble with ice mode right after the fastest section (purple) since most times I was carrying a bit much speed thru there and was trying to brake while going into the turn(off camber). On my last run I thought I did better (earlier) with the braking there but messed up later parts of the run.

I was running used Hoosier R6's with the 245/40/17 fronts and 225/45/17 rears on K1-TS wheels. The alignment is currently unknown since I just got the car back on the road on tuesday before the event and I spent most of last week driving it to get breakin miles on it.

All my MaxQGPS datalogs are available here.
and the chart application is a free download from the MaxQdata site
For just an overview of my runs I have them overlayed on google maps here with the speed traces.

Nice job outrunning Karen. She's no slouch and has gotten a lot of seat time in the WRX this year. She is demon in her F Stock Camero.

She was not in her normal WRX. She was running Chike's WRX at this event and it is a lot closer to stock. His has stock/tokico HP shocks Vs the Koni's on Justin's WRX that she is used to and he is on R5's instead of the A6's that she is used to.

wait, why is G-stock cars going faster than D-stock?

G-Stock in DC is one of those local classes that has national level competition at pretty much every event. All three of those top people in GS trophied at nationals last year (GS, AS, and HS) and are all in well prepped cars.

D-Stock is a little more hit and miss and while it has some well prepped cars (National winning 05 car) the drivers are mostly mid pack drivers. Currently I need to be shooting to match local GS times.

Also remember that GS and DS are only .001 apart in PAX this year so they are going to be close.

Ah....I assumed she was in Justin's. Still a good finish for the out of practice MSP.

Good job taking 1st of 18 DS drivers!

I am amazed at the times of Erik K. in that Sentra though! I saw one or two of his runs at Nats last year. Tossed that sucker around. It's kind of funny how he has shown that much success over this year and last and I still don't see anyone following suit at the National Tour level yet. Is there something bad about having one of those cars?

My wife and I actually stopped at the Nissan dealership to look for one of those back in the day. No used ones available so we went to the Mazda dealership down the street and the rest is history.
