We lost a fellow brother last night...

I just spent an hour and a half reading this and viewing the images. I hope 1338's soul is resting well and that his family's hearts are mending. I am truly sorry for your loss.

RIP 1338

Well, its taken me a while to read this entire thread. Although i did not know 1338, i feel like i knew him. Im glad people have the respect they do. Makes you think twice about how you drive out on the street. I lost a close friend last year and it hit me hard after i realized he was really gone. I am ordering a sticker even tho i dont have a car to sport it on. but a spicy is coming my way soon!

please accept my condolences to the family even though i did not know him.

I kept seeing "R.I.P 1338" everywhere and did not know what they were talking about. I finally came across this, and I read the WHOLE THING.. CRYING. I stared at the first picture for 15 minutes. In disbelief.
To family and friends accept my condolences also.
You see all these threads about how fast we can get our mazdas, but fearfully any of us could end up like this if we just lost control at 120 mph. My mom BEGS me to slow down. She knows I drive fast. And If it touches so many of us someone that we don't know.. think how your family members feel when they get a call "that" night.
Yes, Marko 18, it does make you think twice.
I can't make anyone slow down, including myself.. but PLEASE be safe. Don't let this happen again.

I may have not known you, but all the crosses and graves placed along side of the road is saddening. I pray this will not happen again..

Give respect to the dead, especially those who should have lived longer. So much more to learn, so many places to explore, so many things to do. 1 live to live, thats all you get.. Just be cautious of the things you do. Live it to your fullest.

We dont have a calander to tell us when we leave to the promised land. Soon we too will take place in eternal happyness.

Past few months ive had 3 people ask me what "In Memory 1338" means and its good to know people are still noticing the sticker almost a year later.

So my question is, who still has it on their vehicle cause i certainly do.

i always get asked about it and still have one of the original decals on my car. I think about it all the time how much Shannon will be missed and how much it meant to the family and the looks on their faces with how much this community supported them

I traded in my MSP with the them still on her.. im sure the dealer took them off.. but a couple days after i got the STI i had some pink ones made up and they have been on the car since.

still have my original, still get asked about it, we talked about it a littel this weekend actually

Sad to see a young kid go out like that....

It is kinda strange that the picture is from Shannonville, since June 23 is Shannon's birthday. Shannon is my nephew and I know I have spoken to a few of you over the past year and a half. To all of you that have posted comments, THANK YOU!. I know it sure has helped me the past year and a half. It gives me a great sense of pride that a kid from Snellville, GA has had an impact on so many people in so many places. I still have my original sticker on my pick up truck. On several occasions I have been asked about my sticker, and on one occasion, a cop thought that 1338 was a badge number. (After he got the explanation he didn't write me a ticket, although I was only speeding by 5 mph.) The other day I was in the town of Stone Mountain sitting a red light and the car in front of me had a 1338 sticker. I tried to get the attention of the driver to see how they new Shannon. But, I guess, they just thought I was crazy.

Shannon was such a wonderful person and it greatly saddens me that this earth has lost that. But, through all of you, his spirit lives on. Please drive carefully. 7 10th of second can be forever.

Thank you Mazda community for your support.

Amen. 7/10ths of a sec can be a lifetime. This thread and Shannon's shortened life prove that w/o a shadow of a doubt.

I feel the pictures of Shannon's car, as graphic as they are, may be doing the most good as they reminds us all that we are only human and mortal.
And as much as we all like our cars, or we wouldn't be here in the first place, a car is just a car.
As debi states, "please drive carefully." Good advise.

I'll never do over 90 mph again.

I never can read this thread without scaring myself.

That is still plenty fast enough to kill you, your passengers and anyone else who may be driving near you.
Remember, they said Shannon was doing in excess of 70mph.

I somehow remember reading he was in the 100+ range, but whatever. I will be more cautious at least. How likely is someone's tie rod to break on the freeway, and then slamming into you from the side or from wherever.?
I used to do top speed passes on interstate 80 at night in Nevada to test new mods, etc. if those pictures were really just 70 MPH, then someone at the DOT needs to seriously rethink safety standards. Granted you car is not designed to have much structural integrity when slamming roof first into a power pole.

they say he was air borne and hit the pole at 70mph which means he was going much much faster when he took that corner. The corner he had wrecked on can easily be taken at 70mph
