Why does the break light keep coming on?

Hey guys, any one have an issue with the parking brake light coming on while driving?? I've had this happen a few times now and I'm just trying to get some idea's. It flashs on for about 4 seconds at a time and then disapears. Happens at different times, while stopped, while highway driving too... I know it might just be an electrical issue, but has any one had any similar issues?

Have you checked the brake fluid. If so and it's at a good level, check to make sure the parking brake and brake light switches are in place and tight. If neither of those turn up to be faulty best suggestion is to take it to a dealer or good mechanic and have them check it with a scanner to see if any soft codes have been stored.

I dont know enough about mazdas yet, but on my ford ranger when the parking brake light would come on it was the ABS. yes it had a abs light too, and i dont know why, but the damn parking brake light would stay on. I took it to my buddy mechanic at ford and we pulled the code and it turned out to be a faulty ABS Valve under the truck. About a 100$ peice, I opted to just unplug the abs computer, LOL. I only use the thing for towing jetskis and a boat, and it only had RABs anyway(rear anti-lock brakes) so not enough to concern me. But yeah check the fluid and connecters then head to the dealer.

What not just take it to Mazda? Assuming your still under warranty it will be free...Less chance of F'ing your car up.

I had the same thing happen to me, took my P5 to the dealer, and there was an inner seal on drivers side rear caliper leaking. They replaced the caliper, and was good to go.

hey, this just started happening to me this morning; i am assuming its the brake fluid and will be checking on it this afternoon.... but in case it is low, does anyone know what type of Brake Fluid i should use? i dont feel like busting out the manual....


p.s. the thing that really pisses me off, is that i just recently had an oil change and i am pretty sure they're supposed to check all the fluids; so if the brake fluid IS low then WTF! plus i had my brake pads (rear) replaced with my 30K service about 5K miles ago, and you would assume that they would have checked on this and told me if it was low (or just fill it up)....

this would be why i work on my own car when i can, service shops dont do near a good a job as i do. on my camaro an intake manifold gasket blew, $725 to hear chevrolet tell it, $98.76 for me to do it along with cap rotor and wires, chevrolet got owned.

That happened with mine a few weeks ago ... when I would go to work in the morning every time I stopped the E-Brake light would come on. As the car warmed up it went away. I checked my front brake pads and they were getting really low so I replaced the front pads and turned the rotors -- problem solved. I do believe it was the fluid being low due to the ammt in the lines needed to squeeze the caliper.

I checked my front brake pads and they were getting really low so I replaced the front pads and turned the rotors -- problem solved. I do believe it was the fluid being low due to the ammt in the lines needed to squeeze the caliper.

Yup, your right, that is exactly what the problem was. My brakes were down to 10% front and back

My old Galant did that, and turns out it was some kind of sensor telling me it was getting close for time to change the pads, if that helps

damn, I dunno....I have had alotta problems with my ABS light coming on at speeds upward from 78-80mph. It does'nt seem to affect much, its just that little damn light. I don't quite know what to do. The dealer blamed it on how the tires are inflated to different psi, but I filled them all to equal psi and it still does it.

Dammit.

This has been happening to me too. Time change my pads as well (the rears). Luckily I have those pads sitting in my room.

We'll see how long my stock pads last for. So far i've got 44K on them and they still have plenty of meat on them. But then again, I don't ride my brakes very much. I also like to downshift and rev match for curves, so brakes aren't needed too often. IMHO brakes are for stopping...I can't stand seeing people brake check on the highway.

lol - yeah i have a set of Brand New OEM Rear Pads in my room also.... i just need to take some time out one of these days and install them....
