Last night at the 1/8 mile track a few miles from my house they had another "RASR" (Racers against street racing or something like that) meeting with a test and tune. On the track they run the tree sportsman style, but without all the timing stuff turned on. So basically all they give you is a way to start in sync, well, that and no fee.
Anyways, I am on my way back from Wendy's for some supper, and notice the floodlights at the track and decide to see what was going on. I had the little 10lb bottle of highly compressed gas behind my seat filled two weeks ago, along with new spark plugs that were two bottles past due... At any rate, I go over and start talking to some of the guys at a tent set up about this RASR club (I hope I am spelling that right). Seems likes a good bunch of guys. I had no intention of running, but a new Blue WRX with "Subaru" in large yellow letters and a bunch of stars painted across the rear doors caught my intention. It was stock looking on the outside other than the graphics, and I was curious to see how it compared to the other cars. Well, a guy in a Civic Si that I raced a few months ago was there, and came over to talk. Turns out the WRX had a few mods of some sort, and was supposedly running mid to low 13 sec. 1/4 miles. This was in my territory on Slicks, but I figured pretty far out of my league on street tires.
After watching the WRX owner completely destroy a New Automatic Eclipse GT, I talked with the guy a little bit, and fell in line with him after deflating my tires down to ~20PSi. I let the guy in the civic ride with me, since I had beaten him so badly a while back, I guess he was still curious. Anyways, while we sat there read to stage, a few back in line, I turned on the bottle heater, checked the pressure, and armed the system. I purged the N20 lines about 1 second to clear out all the air since it was the first shot on a full tank. The WRX driver rolled his passenger window down snickering, and said "It won't help". I agreed and said "You're probably right"...
Anyways, at our launch he probably pulled 2 c/l's in a heart beat. I went 1/2 throttle till about 20, then 3/4 to my 1st to 2nd shift at 40mph... Once into 2nd I went Full throttle, letting the little switch on the side of my throttle body do it's magic. He held his 2 C/L lead until about 60 MPH when I passed him at a pretty consistent rate. I ended up about 1 C/L in front of him at the finish. He was surprised, but really cool about it. That damn thing was something from a dead stop...
I thought it was really cool getting to race one of those though, and figured I would share. I was going to race some more, but by then my Spicy Chicken Combo was getting cold, and I was pretty damn hungry.
