Last night at the 1/8 mile track a few miles from my house they had another "RASR" (Racers against street racing or something like that) meeting with a test and tune. On the track they run the tree sportsman style, but without all the timing stuff turned on. So basically all they give you is a way to start in sync, well, that and no fee.

Anyways, I am on my way back from Wendy's for some supper, and notice the floodlights at the track and decide to see what was going on. I had the little 10lb bottle of highly compressed gas behind my seat filled two weeks ago, along with new spark plugs that were two bottles past due... At any rate, I go over and start talking to some of the guys at a tent set up about this RASR club (I hope I am spelling that right). Seems likes a good bunch of guys. I had no intention of running, but a new Blue WRX with "Subaru" in large yellow letters and a bunch of stars painted across the rear doors caught my intention. It was stock looking on the outside other than the graphics, and I was curious to see how it compared to the other cars. Well, a guy in a Civic Si that I raced a few months ago was there, and came over to talk. Turns out the WRX had a few mods of some sort, and was supposedly running mid to low 13 sec. 1/4 miles. This was in my territory on Slicks, but I figured pretty far out of my league on street tires.

After watching the WRX owner completely destroy a New Automatic Eclipse GT, I talked with the guy a little bit, and fell in line with him after deflating my tires down to ~20PSi. I let the guy in the civic ride with me, since I had beaten him so badly a while back, I guess he was still curious. Anyways, while we sat there read to stage, a few back in line, I turned on the bottle heater, checked the pressure, and armed the system. I purged the N20 lines about 1 second to clear out all the air since it was the first shot on a full tank. The WRX driver rolled his passenger window down snickering, and said "It won't help". I agreed and said "You're probably right"...

Anyways, at our launch he probably pulled 2 c/l's in a heart beat. I went 1/2 throttle till about 20, then 3/4 to my 1st to 2nd shift at 40mph... Once into 2nd I went Full throttle, letting the little switch on the side of my throttle body do it's magic. He held his 2 C/L lead until about 60 MPH when I passed him at a pretty consistent rate. I ended up about 1 C/L in front of him at the finish. He was surprised, but really cool about it. That damn thing was something from a dead stop...

I thought it was really cool getting to race one of those though, and figured I would share. I was going to race some more, but by then my Spicy Chicken Combo was getting cold, and I was pretty damn hungry. ;)

The AWD really gives the WRX an amazing launch....be awesome to see all you've done to your truck to take out a WRX tho!

Here you go:

305ci V8 overbored .020 with 400SB crank
Competition Cam
BBK throttle body
Edelbrock cyl. heads/Intake Manifold/ Roller-Rockers/3-angle valve job
Edlebrock Performer N20 System adapted to be used as a wet kit (150 shot jets from another kit) 10lb bottle, heater, purge, remote opener.
JE forged pistons, Child's and Albert rods
Walbro Hi-flow fuel pump
Accel Coil/Pack/Wires
Hedman headers w/Dynomax H-pipe
2 Catco converters
2 Flowmaster 40 series 3 inch in/dual 2.5 inch out with turndowns
TH700R4 Transmission with B&M Shift Improver Kit
(Rebuilt to Corvette specs, clutch packs, main spline, everything..)
2500RPM Stall Torque Converter
10-bolt 3.73 Rear-end w/Eaton LSD unit

I think that is everything. :)
If the WRX had just a little more Mid-range power, he would have beaten me or at least hung. His launch was impressive as hell though, I wish all the timing equipment had been turned on. His 60ft time had to be low as hell....

*Edited - I had my tranny rebuilt 2 weeks ago... LOL

Cool story...I remember being at a 1/4 mile event in Fontana (aka Fontuky) and it was WRXs galore...one dolt who probably just drove from the dealer lot launched his rex while bouncing of the rev limiter....light goes green...and everyone heard the most treacherous sound imaginable...and his rex was no more.

Glad to see this WRX driver but up a good race. :D

I probably would have cried over seeing something like that. (Only because of the car though... lol )

I hate when someone who doesn't know what the hell they are doing, rips up a piece of wonderful engineering like that... Poor WRX

i've rode with guys at solo2 events that said they used to drop their wrx's at 7k for starts! poor poor drivetrain! a common comment on i-club is that your wrx is as fast as you want it to be. you just have to decided how much stress you wanna put on the drivetrain.
