It's really unfortunate that the waters are polluted and the beaches are used as a dumping ground for drug needles in Santa Cruz. I also never really understood why people would take their kids to the beaches to play in the storm runoff (sewage). I just remember a different time when Santa Cruz was actually a beautiful place and the Westside would smell of whatever the Wrigley plant was making that day. The town never really regained its full charm after the quake, which is a shame.
Yeah, the good old days when there was no storm run-off. lol
I've been surfing in and around Santa Cruz my whole life (my daughter is 5th gen SC) and I have never seen a drug needle. EVER.
Cool news articles you found on the internet, but the reality is much different. Yes we have a problem with homeless people because the weather is so nice and our city council is a bunch of ex UCSC hippies, but you're gonna find heroine junkies in pretty much every city these days. Take a trip to Venice or San Diego, not to mention SF or LA. The difference is we get more of them per capita, and we complain louder when we do HUGE, 1000+ person beach clean-ups. There are more than a few non profits here aimed at keeping SC nice. http://saveourshores.org/ https://packyourtrash.wordpress.com/ppnf/
Geez, this is retarded. I don't have to defend my town from someone on the internet who took a trip here in the 90s. I'm stoked to live here and I'll never leave. Plus, I'm pretty sure this is a 'post a pic of the weather in your town' thread, not 'tell people their hometown sucks' thread. So post a pic or pipe down.
