Can someone suggest some decent video editing software? I've been shooting alot of stuff lately and want to start editing it. I've heard of Pinnacle, any other suggestions? Something non-linear, that I can add sound or music to, cut footage, add text etc...something basic but functional. Anything like cooleditplus but for video?

i just got sony vegas + DVD. $99 on the shelf. imo it is better than pinacle. well pretty much better then any off the shelf editing software. unless you want to pay big bucks and get the top notch stuff. vegas+DVD has a ton of features and is pretty simple to use.

adobe is decent stuff. also $99 of the shelf. sony is a bit more user friendly imo. pinacle and roxio can be had for cheaper if you want very very basic stuff.

yeah its a little expensive, but avid is the leader around the world when it comes to video editing software.
smoke, flint, and flame are all good too, plus you get the ability to composite.

i dont think avid is what replica needs. a good used version of Xpress would still cost you in the hundreds. i dont think he is looking to..."get geeky" lol

unless he has two tape decks, a control board, and a couple monitors, anything on a computer is "non-linear". non-linear simply describes the ability to cut and move things around without having to backtrack and do it all again, ie. on the computer. you can drag and drop, move and replace, without having to go back to the beginning and lay it all out again.

Yeah what is the most user friendly yet capable program.
I have Adobe premier but I can't figure out how to just cut a clip out, add music, or basically do anything haha. I am awesome with Illustrator and PShop but this proggie is a whole other story...Maybe I need a book on it. Any suggestions?

if you want user friendly and capable, final cut pro. but unless you have a mac, you're screwed.
i'm going with avid through and through. maybe its because its what i know, and i know it works quite well, and i'm a certified editor and trainer for it, and i'm sure there's a bias in there somewhere...
but it just ******* works. and it works well.

yes i think we are all aware that linear is used only by a select few these days. in my undergrad they made us learn both. i learned on an avid system for non-linear. but i was just quoting what replica is after. he just needs a simple and user friendly.
yeah like i said haze adobe is good product but not the most user friendly.. especially is you are a beginner.
if you have the $$$ (about 750 new) for avid xpress it is the best bottom rung system for teh serious editor. but if you are poor like me the sony vegas+DVD is great and very simple to learn....and most likely will do everything you are wanting. pinacle and roxio are the only others under the $100 mark that i would suggest. anything else is just too limited....imo

wont argue that....avid is for sure at the top...well among the top. but i'll say it again unless you are serious you don't need an avid program.

also element how are you a tranier for "avid"? not trying to bust your balls but you said you are still working on an undergrad. just curious. also off topic...have you ever skied mt brighton?

i've been certified as not only an editor with media composer 5 - 7, xpress, and xpress dv, but i'm certified to teach people how to use it.
i finished my film editing school like two years ago bro.
and yes, mt. brighton ******* blows.

wo wo dont get pissy....i saw this^^ and was under the impression that you were still in school.
i too got my ug in film/tv/media and am doing the same for my masters...but i can't find anyplace to get certified to train in avid. i guess you could say i am "certified" because i know how to use it and how to teach it. but not officialy cert as of yet.
and yes mt brighton blows but its a fun little hill. not much else to ski near by.
