My favorite is Final Cut Pro. However that is for Macs only. That's a pretty hardcore program, but it's what I have the most experience in.
It depends on what you are doing. I've got a friend who does great work on Windows Movie Maker. Generally he just uses that for smaller and simple projects. For bigger projects he uses Premier.
As for "user friendly" I think that totally depends on the user. You can't really say "program x is better than program y because it's easier to use". It's all about the user and how they 'click' with the interface.
I'm majoring in multimedia and graphic design. I love this stuff!
