Update on my MPI Tuner!

New Maps..

I have been doing lots of tuning...I have pulled lots of fuel..And adjusted the retard of timing.

Let me know what you guys think.

I will have datalogs up soon!

Looks like you took away the advanced timing down low? Is there any reason why? My car is a bit more aggresive down low with advanced timing there plus he builds 2~3psi of boost @ 2000rpm now.

Anyway... I also have an MSD inline fuel pump. Its should be good enough for mild boost like us.

No reason really...I am still learning to listen for knock. But i plan to redo my maps when dyno day comes around.

When I took out my advanced timing at idle, it seemed to idle a little better. How much do you have there, any screen shots? I don't know if it has anything to do with the MP3 and P5 ECU's or not since there are no true comparison's of the timing between the 2.

I have only 1deg advance in idle, but it goes up to 4deg advance upon acceleration.

I will continue testing different timings and stuff.

Hey what fuel pump do you have?

Also how did you wire it? Through a realay? Is it alwayz on..or only when you hit boost?

Please post your maps...I wanna compare.

Thanks

same as yours MSD 1255, and its always on, I dont want to stress the stock one.

Yeah I used a relay but using the wiring in the fuse box on the engine bay. I may change it later, maybe going to use the wire used for the stock pump.

I would post my maps, but i still have problems with my turbo module. Its not activating. Ill check that on the weekend.

Does your oem intank fuel pump wine?

Mine does..and i am not sure why.

yes...its doing it.

it whines badly...but i got used to it and it doesnt bothers me anymore.

Thanks..i wasn't sure why it was..but now i feel better!

Thanks

Is anyone here having problems in first gear with the A/f ratios going crazy and off the charts? Sorry if this is a thread jack.

But onthe gas issue. Out here in Phoenix 91octane is as good as we get. Fortunately we're about 2,000 feet above sea level so that helps, but the addition of torco gas additive has helped a bunch if you guys havent' checked it out do it! you can get it here http://www.need4speedpower.com/gtafuel.html

Also luckily Beau of MAM showed me an air field not far from wher eI live that you can go get 101 octane for only 2.60 a gallon. Have to do it at night or you et in trouble but it's worth it!!! Running a 50/50 mix of that and 101 is ideal. :)

The problem with most fuel additives like 108octane and stuff...most of them are harmful to oxigen sensors, they can permanently damage them.

About the A/F's goin crazy? yes...

But **I think** thats because of timing shifts along with the stock fuel map, you will need to adjust fuel accordingly by each rpm, and also it will depend on throttle position.

For example, if you are running 10deg between 800-1500rpm and then @ 1501 it goes to 20, you will may see a change in A/F. So you have to adjust fuel there...

In my case, I still have some mild stumble in light throttle @ around 2500rpms.

Im sure none of us know the actual timing of our cars...so we will need out buttdynos to set that and the A/F or better, a Wideband to correct this.

hmm ya true.... I haven't heard anythign about this additive damaging any O2's as I've been caucious of that before. What about the wideband? Is that a little more addaptive to heat and gasses?

Um..as idgrasil mentioned race fuel will **** up your o2 sensors.

Can you clarify what you mean about 1st gear. do you mean off the charts rich? Lean?
Chas

How exactly does it "**** up" your o2's? And a lot of race gasses are different. As far as I know a lot o people are running widebandsa nd runing race gas and have had no CEL's thrown or problems with the wideband not working right.

Actual "race" gas will damage the O2s. That includes gas like Cam2, VP, etc. You can use octane "boosters" as well. They will turn your O2s colors, but they don't damage them. Race gas will damage the sensors. It takes about a full tankfull of race gas to effect them. What happens is it will cause the sensors to read "slow". That will affect the way it drives on the street. Since the O2s are not used during WOT, race performance won't be affected, but non-WOT drving will. Hope this helps.

Chas
if its unleaded race gas, its ok. like most 101octane

Leaded race gas will damage O2 sensors.

And some additives found in Pepboys and Advanced Auto parts, etc.

Hey idgrasil..aRe you using the fMU in conjuction w/ the mpi tuner? Are you using extra injectors or controlling stock injectors?

Im using the FMU while I troubleshoot the turbo module. Stock injectors. My additional injectors are not installed yet. Now that I got things working out, I will start tunning with the FMU and without it.

So the car is running damn ridiculously pig rich now with the FMU and your fuel map @ 8psi.

Im going to make some maps, they will not be so elaborated but...it will be ok for WOT.

Probably 1 map @ 8psi like you, stock injectors and No FMU, this will be elaborated and tunned with more effort.

Another A/B map for racing purposes WITH the FMU and 12-15psi. So it will be tuned for WOT only. This is going to take some more time, im not ready to break pistons again.

Actually i am still at ~6psi. I didn't want to turn up the boost until i properly tune 6psi.

But it's sick...at wot i am reading 11.6's...my fuel cal is now at 0. AND my WOT Column is 0. I just can't figure it out. I am going to lower my feul cal into -2. until i see my a/f #'s gett back into the 12's.

Chas

P.S. where is you Air Intake Sensor pluged into?
