Trying to buy a MS6

Well I'm just trying to vent some frustration, I just left two dealers trying to buy a MS6 and neither one of them wants to more than $7000 for my 03 MSP. I will say that it has 80,000 miles but I can't see why I can't get at least $8500 - $9000 for the car. Thats all I'm really asking for it. In my eyes $7000 is a LX model. They keep giving me all these reasons (which I think are B.S.) But anyway does anyone have any suggestions on getting a little extra for my car through the dealer.

Yeah your right, the funny thing is a couple of weeks ago one of the dealerships had my same car with about 50,000 miles and they were selling it for $15000. So basically they are telling me that 30,000 miles on a car depreciates the value by 50%.

I heard it is easy to sell those speed proteges because they are so rare. Hell Ill give you 8000 for it if you want to deliver it to NJ. Why not list it on autotrader.

the proteges do not have great resale value sorry to say. when you see protege5s selling on ebay for $7000 in pristine shape and mazdaspeeds on autotrader for $9000 its pretty disenheartening.

how many miles are on car and whats the overall condition? blue book does not value the MSP but a fully loaded ES with a five speed, 50k miles and loaded with an mp3 player in excellent condition comes up as $7300 trade in value. a friend of mine here traded his for $10000 and it was pristine - when i say pristine it had maybe 15k miles on it and was showroom fresh in every respect and never left the garage for five months of the year.

Mine is garage kept as well. I also take pride in my car and make sure its well taken care of. Hell I put painters tape on the front of it to drive from O-town to tampa (about an hour or so). It just has a lot of miles on it but they are all highway.

I'll try another dealership later in the week. Someone has to want to sell a car. What makes it worse is my girlfriend wants to buy a 3 as well (i've converted her from Hondas) and you would think for the $2000 dollar difference that I'm asking about they could get rid of two vehicles.

Keep looking bro. I went to 5 dealerships, got quotes ranging from $8k-$10k. I decided to stick with one dealership and told them I would buy the car if they gave me $12k for my msp. Took about a month in negotiations. Finally I went in one day, with a preapproved check from my credit union. And the deal was made... $12k. Car had 53k miles on it.

If you have that many miles... I think 9k miles is probably the most you will get. My dealer told me that once the car hits 60k, that is when the most depreciation occurs.

Just sell your car privately. Mazda offered me $5000 for my trade in. I sold it to a friend for $10,000 (and that was giving him a deal).

Bottom line, when you trade in a car, you get screwed.

Its funny how things are different in different parts of the world. Up here in Canada the Protege is the number one car in the country for resale value. 130,000kms on that car would bring the value down a little though.

I don't know about re-sale on mazdas... however Maybe i'm mistaken, but seems like you missed the whole trade-in dealership understanding... They don't give you the value of the vehicle.. because thats what they sell it for... if you think its worth 9000... they'll probably be selling it for around that... (or they'll mark it up above 9000... and expect to deal back down to 9000 later on)....

Anyway, if you want the 'value' you'll have to find private party... who really wants the car... But even private you have to work deals. I've sold 2 vehicles recently... An 03 CRV... Bluebook was 18500... I got 16500... I had it listed for 3 months on several sites for around 18,000 give or take a little.. finally I had no choice but to drop the price to get it sold... I also sold my civic... I couldn't give you blue book as it had an engine swap.. and some problems... But I i paid 10,000 for the car when i first got it... 1997... got it with 35,000 miles in 1999... Dropped engine and such in it many years later cost me about 3500 total... sold the car for 3500... Got pretty screwed on that deal... But its a good example of... Aftermarket jobs / work / s*** is worth nothing to other people in most situations....

I got 17,250 for my MSP. That is Canadian. I also got the taxes back which were another 2500 so I really I got almost 20k for it. 43,000 kms. And new Goodyear eagle f1's that were only 2 days old.

Well good news guys....I'm the proud owner of an MS6. I went to a third dealer in the area and told them I wanted $9000 for my MSP and the $6000 off the MS6 and they said they would do it. (After I turned them down on their first two offers for my car---1st was $6500 and the $7500). Then I explained to them again that if they wanted to sell a car today then I needed $9000 for my trade and they gave it to me. Here she is:

Its the sport. GT would have been nice but leather in FL (= a no no to me) plus I don't have a need for the navi. Now I did like the ability to start the car w/o the key but oh well.
