Has anybody installed the Apple CarPlay upgrade to their pre-2019 CX-5?

Passing my car to a family member and she's used to Apple CarPlay in her parents car.

I know it's best to have the dealer do the install but was curious on the costs.

What is the year of your car? The 2013-2016 you need a full aftermarket head unit replacement to get CarPlay. If you have a 2017-2019 i think it's easier. Idk mine is a 2014, i just have my phone on a magnetic mount and use the aux jack for audio. it's very 2000's but it works.

It's a 2016. I thought the kit covered 2016 but maybe not. The mount might be the best bet. I have to go to the dealer on Tuesday so I'll see what they say.

Thanks for the info. Good to know the 2016 can handle the upgrade. Now the only problem is what will the dealer charge. This is not something I'm willing to tackle on my own.

When I did this 7 years ago on my 3, it was $450. I now have a new (to me) CX5 which was never updated, and they want a cool $695, so as soon as I can get access to the latest firmware I'll be DIYing it with a 3rd party kit and praying it works. if that fails, then I'll be buying the OEM hub unit which according to the local parts guy is $165 (plus $127 for the wiring, but I should be able to reuse the 3rd party wiring in that case).
