Test drove rx8 today

something about mazda as of late....

With the RX-8 and MSP you get A LOT of car for your money. Look at the srt-4, you get an engine, look at the evo...engine. Thats just MHO, I would take an RX-8 over evo anyday....oh and yea, wait till the turbo kits come out for the RX-8...not only will the car be one of the best on twisties but flat out too....seriously RX-8 you get a lot for your money.

Just kind of a comparison, look at a Lexus, and than the RX-8. Take a RX-8 with the GT package, than take a Lexcus with the same options, its gonna be a whole lot more expensive....lot of car for the money!

I believe that the 350Z body style was inspired by the original japanese classy car the Nissan 240 for the 70's. Kinda like what for is doing with the new 05 Mustang, basically modernizing and old body style.

I'm glad to see there is another person with a msp from the STL. pkay what part of st. louis are you from and who is this friend you have that works on rx7. Does he have shop, because I'm looking for a good shop in the st. louis area.

do you post on stlousstreetracing.com????

i'm talking about Eric Cheatham.... works at Bi-State Customs (a turbo shop) drives a blue 94 Rx7..... probably one of if not the fastest car in st louis..... he's a badass with turbos

I live in o'fallon but am around everywhere hehe

the Sports Pkg RX-8 is the ideal 'bang for the buck' for only $28k :)

find me another REAR WHEEL DRIVE (longitudally mounted engine), 4 seat, performance-oriented car for that price.

I can't think of any right now :D

oh yeah NEW CAR only, no cheating w/ used cars :D

For the record Evo's and STi's arent all they're cracked up to be

They're both great cars and what not but their power is all in the low end. An rx8 would lose from a stop to an evo but an rx8 would completely obliterate an evo on the highway.

I dunno about you guys but 75% of my races take place while driving around and last longer than a 1/4 mile.

Even at lower speeds say 40mph or so..... if an evo rolled up on an rx8 by the time they were at 80mph the rx8 would begin to pull away slowly but surely...... why? Evo/Sti blow all their power off the line and have no obvious gain after about 50-60mph

A month or so ago in my rx7 I walked a brand new Sti to the tune of about 10 car lengths. He pulled up on me going about 55 or 60 on 370 in st louis.... waved his hand acting like he wanted to go..... he got a jump on me...... I pulled even with him at about 70-75mph..... looked at him..... waved bye-bye to him and downshifted to 4th. About 6 seconds later and at about 115mph he turned into a spec in my rearview mirror

granted i have a turbo on the 7, but any car that is more focused and more aggressive at high rpms/speeds should not fear an evo or sti.

do you post on stlousstreetracing.com????

pkay this link didn't work and no I didn't know that this site was around. Where is Bi-state customs located at. You live in O'fallon missouri or O'fallon Illinois.

Hey Darin,
Every car has it ups and downs unless you bring mad cash up to the Table. For 30 grand the overall suspension and Power capabilities of the EVO VIII will over rule the RX8. You have to admit that if you compare the two (in the same price range) the RX8 will need more major work to add HP. With the EVO it already has a turbo and a FMIC and all you have to do is upgrade what you have. If you have a RX8 then you will have to buy a $3-4 grand Turbo kit and it will be like reinventing the wheel again.

Ohh and here is your (butt) ! J/k I Like your cars Darin!

But the FAST ones have been converted to SINGLE turbo ;) :D

I never will understand the comments like dude made about 'buy an evo! You'd hand an RX8 it's ass"

Those statement show a very low level of knowledge when it comes to 'sports cars'. On a road course, the RX8 would do VERY well...

There are things MUCH more enjoyable than acceleration - refinement...smoothness..fun factor.

:)

RX8 is MUCH MUCH more classy than the 'Mirage'

;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the RX-8 was not meant to be a true sports car, so comparing it to the 350Z head on is not really appropriate. But it's good to see how it bests it :D

The RX-8 is a BIG car. I'm not saying it's stance isn't good, it's just that it's bigger than real sports cars.

I think I remember seeing it classified as a sports sedan, or something like that...

I still have to test drive one of those. My friend said they just got 7 more in (of every color :) )!!!! They already sold 3.

Hey STLMSPBLK, you need to go to stlracing.com! it looks kind of like this one a little and DSMtalk.com if that is the one he is talking about! call me later bro!

the fact that its a rotary engine means it's supposed to be a sports car...... even more so the rx8s rotary engine is 10 times the engine the rx7's 3rd gen is (well minus the turbo)

Put it this way..... with the EVO you've got your mods already there..... not much room to expand without dropping mad $$$$$$

with the rx8 do intake, full exhaust (not to overly expensive) and you're pushing the 280hp range.

now an evo vs a 280hp rx8.... might be close off the line..... anything other than a dead stop and my money is on the rx8

not to mention the EVO and Sti's HP is outrageously exaggerated.

Point being..... turbo or not... if you put a bit of money in the rx8 (which anyone buying an rx8 likely will do) and evo/sti isnt a worry... put a turbo on the 8 and they're not even the same league.

Like I said my 240hp rx7 obliterated a brand new sti. I'm guessing an 8 with a turbo or a few mods would do the same.

DONT LIKE THE NEW RX8. MAZDA SHOULD HAVE LEFT THE WHOLE RX THING IN THE BASEMENT. I LOVED THE RX7S BUT WHAT IS THIS NEW SPACESHIP LOOKING THING? IF THEY TURBO THAT BEOTCH I MIGHT SAY WHAT THE HELL AND GIVE THEM SOME PROPS.

Without the first gen rx7 i don't think mazda would be around today. Find me another 4dr that can out handle it for the money..

NOT BASHING MAZDA HERE BUT THE DAMN CAR IS UGLY. NOT AS GREAT OF A TRUE RACER AS THE PREVIOUS ONE. MAZDA IS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A CAR WHERE THERE IS A MARKET FOR IT. TRUST ME ALL THE IMPORT CAR COMPANYS LEARNED A LESSON IN THE MID 90S. HELL MAZDA TOYOTA MITSUBISHI ALL HAD KILLER TURBOED CARS WITH FAT ASS STICKER PRICES. WHAT IM GETTING AT IS FOR THE MONEY I WOULD JUST BUY THE STI BECAUSE IT WOULD KILL THE RX8 AND THE STI IS FOUR DOOR RIGHT? THOUGHT SO AND SO IS THE EVO..........

This is one of the weirdest posts I've ever read.

Fact: The EVO will run deep 12s with basic mods. It will take you months of fabrication and tons of money for an RX8 to touch that. Race from a roll? Bolt on a 20G and it's over.

I like the RX8, the interior is badass. But it's not in the same league as an EVO.

WATCHED A EVO AND A STI RUN WED. NIGHT AT DRAG STRIP AND IT WAS AWESOME. THE EVO HAD MAJOR WORK DONE TO IT. HKS EVERYTHING. THE EVO RAN IN THE LOW 11S AND SPUN THRU THE 60 FOOT MARK. I WISH I HAD 1...........LOL
