Talk me out of it!?

i think so too..

lol

Dacquesta- please tell me everything you bought!

When your old motor blew did you have to find another block?

well my situation was a little different. i have a 2000es which had the 1.8L fp-de and the f25m-r transmisson. my engine went last month at 200k. so naturally i pulled it out. rather than drop another 1.8L in there i decided to go with a 2.0L fsde and a g15m-r transmission. ran into some bs with the block too. first machine shop ruined my block when they took out the oil jets and refused to take responsibility. the place i have my stuff at now does race motors. ill be getting it back next friday. the total i spent was 6300 after machining. but keep in mind i got a transmission and two blocks etc...you wont need most of that. heres the list of what i got.

k1 long rods with 8.8:1 wiseco pistons
brand new factory crankshaft
5spd from an 02 with 18k miles
acl complete bearing set
2 engine blocks (assholes)
mazdaspeed axles and intermediate shaft
remanufactured cylinder head
got a t3/t4 turbo but its not going on yet
arp head studs
arp main studs
new bolts

if you dont have another car to drive, your best bet would be to grab another block. but keep in mind you wont know what kind of shape your crankshaft is in either. there are two routes you can take. keeping your car on the road is the more expensive route.

if you can take it off the road, its much cheaper. chances are your crankshaft will be ok and you can just get it machined and go with oversize bearings. figure 170 for the bearings. 850-950 for the pistons/rods plus whatever for machining and assembly. you can do it for less than half of what i paid. i was starting from scratch though.

The previous owner defiently hacked this car up... When I bought the car there was no fmic, no smic either. No bpv or bov either! Because this one doesn't have any racing bear sway bars, reg protege susp, he'll when I bought the car I went digging around and found like a one hit pipe! And a lighter.. Bought it down in Miami so that should tell you something.. I just want a car that has power and is quick and nice. Something for the girlfriend, cause she hates the msp, I wish she didn't but it's hard pleaseing two pretty girls that you're in love with! I don't want to say and feel in y head.. "man Christian do you think you can make it an hour up north in your car"? Lol I don't give me some more input guys..

I think i read something wrong... LOL!!!

I read the same way you did. A turbo forcing air directly into the intake mani with out any vent...or no turbo.
Either way I would have steered clear of that car!!!!
I know when I posted on the other thread you started eventually it was going to come out that more parts that made it an MSP were missing. That's why I kept asking for pics!!!

I didn't know much about msps back then... But all i did was buy an eBay fmic, forge bpv. There done. I don't know how long he ran it like how I bought it. The ic pipes were going along the front bumper with no ic.. And capped off the hot pipe. So all there was, was one vac line going to the w/g. But I've had the car since Late April and no probs with engine. but as of roght now I need, new t/m, brake pads, all new susp an allignment, and rx8 rims would set it off. Oh and ahhhhhh could go on and on, never will be a complete car, lol will always want to do somethig to it.

keep msp, go forged, and possibly go welded lsd and get revised gtx gearset, then youd be pretty set for about 250hp in terms of how much the car can handle, anything after that personally i would get the tranny cryogenically treated then your good till about 400hp

MS3's are slow and heavy anyway :)

Kidding!! But just like the MSP have issues that need to be sorted through.

actually they kind of are... If you factor in that they run 16 PSI stock.....
an MSP running 16 psi would put down similar power numbers and be quicker since its lighter.
I think the MS3 puts down 235 or so WHP at 16 psi. The MSP can put down 240 WHP on the stock turbo and stock internals on 14psi!!!
And look better doing it!!

I proposed this a few weeks ago to help strengthen the tranny and got shot down. (pow)

That being said, I have since done more research on cryo'ing the gears. I have yet to find anyone on here that has actually gone through with it. its cheap as hell to do compared to other options for the tranny, and strengthens it. It has been done rock crawlers, drag cars, etc. Just google it and you will find all kinds of stuff on it. When I get back from deployment I plan on doing this to all internals of the tranny and replace every synchro and bearing. Although the actual transmission casing is a culprit as well, cryo'ing the tranny can buy you some more power to the ground safely.

There have been a few that chewed through 323 gtx gears and one that I remember was also cryo'ed. I think more than anything the par bearing cup re-inforcement would do some good for even stock gears.

DO IT DO IT DO IT. I can't tell you how much you should. The MSP's are losing value quickly and I recently drove the 2k10 MS3 and fell in love.

personally if your looking to make any kind of power I would get as far away from the msp as possible lol.

I went through a build and the cars just not fast and to make it fast way to much $$. I put together a Nissan 240sx and NEVER looked back. 350whp on stock motor FTW

Let's call a Spade a spade!!
Your thinking about selling because you got ****** after buying an MSP with a stock regular protege suspension, and who knows what else!!!
And have been considering popping 18" wheels on 17" tires...LOL
Enough giving you s***.
Truth is I think the MSP is like a Harey always requiring work. The owner has to be willing to get dirty and actually know what he's/she's doing to truly enjoy the car. There is always a bolt to tighten squeak to grease, bulb to change. As far as moving into another car. Audi, Subi, and mitsu are the way to go as far as fun with power for the money.

for real?

Audi = FWD unless your baller and at that matiance is still alot on these and they have known problems. Not power for your money car.

Subi - they are nice and sound amazing, but still cost some money, not alot but still more then one that cant ready mod a MSP would like to spend. Not to mention your insurance and having to learn how to work on a boxer motor.

Mitsu - same as subi execpt the boxer motor part.

Now i might be saying this cause im a mazda fan boy, but keep the MSP for a DD and pick up a 2nd gen RX7. It doesnt take much for get an NA FC to 200whp and if you get a TII u will def. be making power very easily and all they cost is for a nice clean one is roughly 3500 and you have a proper wheel drive car.

just my two cents.

i agree with the nissan, and its a route i considered. but my 1.8 died and my trans was old, but everything else had been replaced...so i had 5-6k to spend. i chose to forge a 2.0 and get a 2.0 trans.

im going with PAR next year.

no par, ask HondaEat-R., he is the previous owner of my car, he chewed through so much par s***, you have to change tranny fluid with each oil change, its litterally meant to be a racing transmission.
