Some questions

First off, dont tell me to search. Now that thats out of the way, I have a few questions before I get the car.

1. What sort of cleaner do you use on the wheels? I have Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish and think it should work, but I was just curious.

2. Do you recommend using Synthetic oil right away? And also, how long should I wait to change my fluids for the first time? I want to change the tranny fluid cuz I definitely felt the notchiness everyone talked about, but don't know how long I should wait.

3. What sort of wash/waxing stuff has given you guys the best shine? I want her to look purty all the time:)

4. Has anyone done any free mods/ are there any? I never heard anyone talk about it, but I know my Camaro had some free mods so I figure it'd be worth a shot.

If I think of anything else, Ill be back:)

I use Eagle One Never Dull. It comes in a silver can. It's a cotton wad type of material with cleaners in it. Pull a piece off, and polish the wheel, then buff of with a clean rag. Works very well.

Let the first one go whatever the dealer recomended. I was told 5,000 miles. Then you can go to full synthetic, but remember, once you use synthetic, you can't go back to regular. You can safely go 5,000 miles between oil changes with this, but I wouldn't go much past. As far as tranny fluid, IDK if anyone solved the notchiness by changing the fluid in the tranny. You can try though.

I use Maguire's deep crystal car wash. It comes in a clear bottle, but it's purple liquid. I think it was only 4-5 bucks, and it's lasted pretty long so far. It keeps suds very long, and gives it a nice smooth feel when finished. Make sure to use some type of wash mitt, or a very soft rag.

The only good free mod I did was to make my own cold air intake. I wouldn't bother making one that stayed in the engine bay though. No matter where it is located, it still sucks in way too much hot air. Look for pics of the injen CAI and use that hole to make your own.
Hopefully this was some help to you, and good luck modding your car. :)

Ryno-A good "free" mod is to remove the weather stripping from the back of the hood. I did this and defintely noticed the underhood temps drop.

Thought I'd chime in here with my opinions, as well.

I use Never Dull when they're not too dirty but I recently tried some Meguiar's Hot Rims wheel cleaner due to the large amount of brake dust that had collected. Simple spray on, brush it a bit or, in my case, wipe it with a towel and most of it comes off. I do have some of that Mother's Aluminum polish but stopped using it since our wheels have a "clear coat" on them.

I did my first oil change at 5,000 miles but a lot of people here recommend doing your first change sooner than that to get the metal flakes from the engine out of there. Try "Royal Purple Racing 21" oil, it's the first oil I've ever used where even other people notice a difference without me saying anything about it. That's pretty impressive. You do pay for that performance addition though, it costs me about $40-$50 to change my oil including filter & oil.

As far as the tranny fluid, my CV axle went out and I just took some GM Syncromesh up to the dealership and had them put it in while they had the car up in the air. There's a definate difference in shifting and it's a lot less notchiness. Cost about $40 for 4qts of the stuff at the local Chevy dealership.

I also use Meguire's Deep Crystal Car Wash. It does sud up quite a bit and does leave the car nice and smooth.

I would also recommend buying a clay bar. Mother's makes one that's at most auto part stores. Clay bars remove all of the extra dirt & grime that washing won't get rid of. Keep in mind these will also remove all wax leave your car open to contaminants, so you need to wax directly after that.

For waxing, I've used quite a few things. Zymol, Liquid Luster, and Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax. Zymol seemed to work the best but Liquid Luster is really good at laking bug/tar out. Once I get some money, I'm going for the P21S paintwork system. It's quite pricey but I've only read great reviews about it.

Remove the rear weather striping on the hood and spark plugs. Well, spark plugs aren't free, but at around $1-2 each, it's pretty much free and it's a VERY worthwhile mod to protect your car from possible detonation.

Word.

Thanks for the info guys. Also, can any sort of power benefits be seen by simply changing to colder plugs, or is it just preventative maintenance? I don't plan on modding it, so. . .

Edit: Well no big mods or anything. . .yet:D

Preventative. Even if you do not plan to mod your car at all, the stock plugs are not good with turbos from what JoeP/spool/local tuning shop has said.

Meguirs s*** is awesome, go synthetic when your oil change is due and i dont know any free mods off hand.

Alright. For some reason I remember a thread that talked about some sort of cleaning stuff with Green in the name maybe, and people were swearing up and down by it. Anyone know what Im talking about. I searched and didnt come up with anything.

Simple Green, all purpose cleaning liquid. I sprayed some on a rag and wiped the engine bay down after washing my car. Its been about 4days now and the bay still has a nice light shine to it.
