RM Racing intake (pic)

:
2003 Protege5
I finally got around to taking a picture of the RM Racing intake installed. This is without the CAI option.

This intake is $289 and comes with a lifetime foam filter that is supposed to be superior to other types of filters out there for particle filtration and lifespan.

There is a type filter that I was being advised NOT to buy. It's green, and foam.
Reason NOT to buy it:
Sure, it makes more power because the holes in the filter are big, but because the holes in the filter are big, the dust and dirt particles go right through it.

Ack that's not good. If that's true it'll kill your engine life and reliblity.

But it's a nice looking intake. Nice pic andy.

That may have been true of the green one you are talking about, but that's not the case for the RM Racing one. There are many type of foam out there. Hell, I could make an intake filter by mashing together packing peanuts and call it foam.

I'm sorry but that s*** is a total rip off. 289 for that? I made one for 1/10th that price and it looks pretty close to the same thing.

What do you mean you made one? What about the red metal pipe, where did you get that from?

I have a Reactive, but I don't like because the metal pipe is so big it hits the master cylinder brake everytime you accelerate on 1st gear...

dude, you should really adjust that thing. If the master cylinder breaks, you...ah....won't. ;)

I bought a mandrel bent pipe and cut it. I then sanded the inside and outside with fine grit sandpaper and spray painted both the inside and outside til the finish was nice and smooth. that is how I did it.

good job man!!:D

I think you paid about $230 too much. All that extra money could've gone towards so many other things for the car...Consult this message board next time you plan on doing any modifications. People would be more than willing to help you out, and many more will be able to steer you towards the cheapest price possible.

Wow thats expensive....Look at mine and check out my intake...$40 shipped.

I think you have to paste the link in your browser...Just clicking on it might not work...

I didn't say anywhere that I PAID $289, just that it costs $289. I wouldn't have paid that much.

I was just providing information in case anyone else was interested in checking it out.

hey andy,

i notice you have that arizona dust layer in your engine bay as well. i need to hose mine out pretty soon cause it's getting nasty. the intake does look good, but is it oiled? without the oil, the dirt in the air that is evident on your engine block will work its way into the throttle body and cause some bad things to happen. hey, when's the next arizona meet?

Yeah I oil it regularly. RM Racing even threw in a maintenance kit for free, which includes the oil.

I'm was actually trying to get some people together for laser tag but no one seemed interested.

I don't know about laser tag, but I'd like to see some other Proteges. Unfortunately for me, I wouldn't be able to make a weekend meet, though - if anyone gets together during the week in the Chandler/Phoenix area, I'd like to see that.

To whoever asked....Here is the link to the intake on ebay. I looked, and it seemed as if all the intakes now use blue rubber instead of the yellow that I have. One auction says that the rubber is paintable...but I guess thats as good as it gets. I do not know if this is the seller that sold me my intake, but its the same looking one as the kit that I have. Maybe if you email the sellers and ask if they have any that come in different colors?

Just search ebay for "protege 5" and you will see a whole bunch come up.
