You can redline everytime with a turbo
I probably would not do that
On hard driving I do at least 6K, and will (when squeezing every last mph out) go redline. I do observe redline for a reason, though, and would never intentionally pass it (except for in our B.S. first gear). And then so only at the track.

My car redlines at 7100 rpm
this is very odd. My redline is 7100 rpm. Unless my rpm gauge is off. I will see what the link reads my rpm at.

On the Miata, the tach will often show up to 300 rpm high on a fast run to redline. Why, I have no idea. But the 7300 rpm fuel cut sometimes appears to hit at 7500. With a Link, you can see the actual RPM.
That said, the Protege motor is not a revvy one. Power and torque fall off very quickly above 6k on a stock motor. You can rev right to the fuel cut without damage, but there's no point.

The fuel shut off for the North America Protege should be 7200 rpm, redline is at 6500. And Keith is right, after 6000 power goes down fast.
Last time I played around with the math I came out that shifting at about 6200 for every gear was the best spot. It puts you just over where power drops, but will keep you in the power band in the next gear.
