Rattle sound

There is a ratte sound coming from my car. It is coming in around 4-5k. When they come to pick up my car this week to fix the dent that the DEALERSHIP put in it I am going to have them take a look at that also. Does anyone else have this rattle noise?

Be a bit more specific. Inside, outside, engine, where's the sound at?

I belive its coming from the engine, but when we first heard it we thought it was my exhaust. I checked that and it was not the exhaust. The sound comes right after the turbo spools. And it almost sounds like it more towards teh drivers side of the engine.

Does it happen with the windows open? I only ask because i also heard a rattling noise but it was only when my window was open. I finally figured out that it was the tag from the bottom of the seatbelt hitting the door from the wind.

Seeing as I don't personally know you or your experience with turbo'd autos, please don't take this as an insult, but are you sure it's not the BPV? If it's a quick burst when you shift, that's what it is. If it's a longer, drawn out sound then it's probably time to go visit the dealer.

I am experiencing this exact same thing, surprisingly enough it started for me around 300 miles. Its not cause the car is cold its all the time and im guessing you have the exact same thing. I have been meaning to visit the dealership about it but I havent gotten off my ass. If you do end up going down there before me please post what happened, if I go first I will plan on posting the results. ME TOO! I dunno what it is, it revs and when you switch gears a 5 grand to 6 grand it sounds like a piece of metal wire wipping an aluminum plate!

well I have something... not quite a rattle, but more like a short growl tone. its kinda quiet, but I never heard it before I put in my MBC. but it is there now, right after it hits about 5 to 6 psi... I dont know what it is.

Can anyone describe what detonation sounds like. I think I have heard it before in an older v8 truck, and would only do it if it had low grade fuel in it and u put the pedal to the floor in like 4th or 5th gear. someone told me that sound was spark knock... isnt that the same thing as detonation? I hope this "growl" sound isnt that... ideas?

Uh oh guys mine does it too. I thought it was the exhaust at first also but not now. I put the karboy bushing in and it still does it. I dont think it is the windows or anything like that. I would say mine happens at around 3-4k rpms

Yeah, we all seem to have the same problem, when we get into the high rpm's we hear the rattle. My friend who had a supra was driving in my car with me, becuase I wanted him to hear the sound. His first thought was the heat shield around the turbo. He said some of the cars he has driven have done the same thing and it was the heat shield. The dealer is supposed to pick my car up this week and fix a dent that they put in it. I am going to have them look at the rattle too.

Yeah I will diffently let everyone know what it is. Hopefully they check it out. My rattle is actually getting better. It is not quite as loud and doesn't last as long.

i honestly doubt this is detonation. If the sound is like high pitched rattle, its probably the wastegate dumping extra boost, or the turbo spinning. I know when i mash on it, above 5k, my car sounds mean, and i can really hear the turbo spinning, sounds like a rushing whistle...

I get a faint metallic rattling noise from the engine bay when I'm at WOT in 5th gear and only when I have the boost set at 8psi or higher...I've never turned it past 10psi..I hope this isn't detonation. I'm not sure what detonation sounds like, but I'm paranoid now...why would it detonate at only 8psi?

me thinks it's made by NGK

take a tip of your car key and tap it ever so slightly on an empty can........that's what detonation sounds like.
