Polarity Issue on the Back Door/Hatch (for a Baby On Board magnet)?

Silly question...

I bought this baby on board magnet for my new 5, as I was getting tired of tailgaters. Yeah it's dumb I know, but I hate tailgaters...

Problem is that the magnet doesn't stick to the back where I want it to. It will stick to the sides however. Maybe I should've checked earlier, but didn't realize that the coating for the back door (hatch) wouldn't take a magnet, it's not plastic back there I mean.

I guess I'll buy another sticker at this point, but it's strange that it would be like this or am I just being crazy?

it's because the entire tailgate is plastic. My Fit's hatch, which is steel, is heavier than the 5's.

There are threads of the tailgate cracking on earlier 5s and I've read that with the '08s and later, Mazda made the plastic thicker.

how is a sticker going to prevent tailgating? I find that 'victims' of tailgating bring it on themselves by bad driving habits, or being oblivious to those around them.
you can also avoid being tailgated by making sure you are always going faster than everyone else.

Nope, you are not crazy. Like the other poster replied, the hatch is not made from a ferrous material. It is instead formed from a synthetic polymer that is incapable of magnetic properties.

Double-sided tape?

Scotch makes some great stuff called Exterior Mounting Tape. 60 inches by 1 inch, comes in a bubble pack on a red carboard card.

I've been using it to hold stuff on various road bicycles, and it refuses to come off, even after it's been soaked repeatedly.

Only problem might be you will never get the Baby on Board 'sticker' off the car (some Goo-Gone will get it off).

That's funny "polarity issue"...

You could always pop the inside cover off the inside of the hatch and glue a neodymium in the spot you want that? Just a thought. Though it would have to be pretty large for such a big sign.

If you're driving on the left and a guy is tailgating you, move to the right.
If you're in the right or only lane and a guy it tailgating you, brake check that m**********. :)
Get one of those LED message license plate frames that turns on with the 3rd brake lights that says "BACK OFF JERK FACE"

or a handful of pennies out the sunroof...

I drove 99% of the time in the middle lane for 3 line highways which is why it's frustrating to get tailgated usually about 5mph above the speed limit so i'm not that slow.

With a toddler and another one on the way, I definitely don't want to risk anything if you know what I mean.

Interestingly, I read in other forums that some folks like to turn on the rear windshield wiper (with fluid) when someone is annoying you, and let the splat on their windshield be a message from you to stop being annoying.

understood. I've got 3 kids myself, got the stick figures in the back window too! never had a tailgating problem, nor been a victim of a road rage incident (well, not in the last 20 years or so).

I've been know to do this, except with the front windshield; at speed, some will go up and over your car and land on theres. If I was more mechanically inclined, I'd hook up a separate tank, pump, sprayer and switch and fill it with vinegar...something stinky so they'd really get the message.

6 months into owning my 5 some A$$hole backed into the back of my 5 during the night at a hotel in New Mexico. Went out the next morning and saw the damage, no note and of course the hotel people didn't see anything and they were not liable. My insurance took care of it but has to replace the rear bumper and entire tail gate. It was because of this I found out my tail gate is fiberglass (according to the dealer who fixed her up). So as mentioned by others your only choice is to tape it onthe tail gate.
