im lookin to get a intake for my MSP.. considering the SPOOL CAI & Injen any one who has them let me know what you think !/members/mazdaspeedchick/mazda.gif/members/mazdaspeedchick/speed.gif:)

I can only speak for the injen...It rocks. Definite power difference. It can be had for ~215 shipped, I believe. Spool's kit is 175$ (on sale now for less) but it doesn't replace the goofy ass plastic s-bends after the MAF to the turbo. For this reason alone I would go with the INJEN. Don't forget...ION is coming out with theirs too, but there are duties etc. since they're in CAN, I believe.

The INJEN will provide a cool, Kenworth Truck-like turbo spooling noise, and amplify the BPV (now a pissed off turkey noise..sounds like fftttrrrr on release). It's all up to you, though...

Whoops! ^^^ and there you have it! :D

It just always seems when Canadians are buying stuff from America they're worried about duties and shipping costs, etc. Having bought my snows/steelies from CAN I know first hand how shipping sucks...I also hsoul have known about the lack of duties. DOH!

It really depends on if you want to do more mods to your car later on. If you don't.....go with Injen. If you do, then go with Ion.

How does the Injen keep you from doing any other mods? Can you explain?

Mazdaspeedchick, have you spoken to joe since your original thread? He won't recommend a CAI at all. He just see's it as an uneccessary and expensive mod for this particular car. I enjoy the injen but I'm willing to spend a little more for something that looks great under the hood yet still has function. If your car is new, depending upon your goals, you might want to look into other mods first (i.e. Boost gauge and boost controller as a good example). Mods like an MBC/or EBC will get your much faster much earlier. Just a thought(dunno)

Not true, Ciri! A hardpipe kit that follows the stock stuff, will avoid the INJEN. However, it gets harder to do with an FMIC...hence I will be looking at that replacement FMIC I noticed on another thread and hard pipes to clean up the whole look and mount my BPV better to.

just ordered

baahh i got a boost gauge jus lookin to get a pod for it

The Injen can be slightly modified (ie: have a nipple welded) to be used with our FMIC upgrade. Our hard-pipe kit will work with the Injen, given that it follows a clear path. It will still require the Injen to be modified to accept the BPV.

True true true. I was just stating that if she wanted to upgrade to already made hardpipes that she would have to go with someone else then Injen.

Also true...I think knew what you meant, but I had to adress how it was put. Don't want us injen owners to get a rep for being faux tuners! :D

Also...Ion...the injen probably needs to be modded right now the way I have it, but instead I made a right angle fitting to get it to work. :D

MSPChick...if you're disappointed you can always sell it to someone else on here, that may want it to at least recoup some funds. But honestly, the only difference from intake to intake is materials used, quality of weld, and intake path. Pick what works best for you...any of the currently available pieces will be good quality.

Doesn't Injen have the black one out now. Did you get that one MazdaspeedChick? If so....I am jealous!!!

ION, what do you mean by "have a nipple welded"? I haven't modded my car as yet because I'm going to wait a while for the aftermarket to really take off for the MSP so that I can get all the best stuff that mates the best with each other.

Larone - we've relocated the location of the stock BPV in our kit to provide better throttle response. And to complete the BPV venting route, it needs to be vented behind the MAF. The Injen connects the MAF -> the turbo inlet. Hence a nipple needs to be welded onthe Injen.

If you go with our CAI kit, it already has everything ready to go, and will plug right into our FMIC piping.

iON - there's a hard pipe piece that the INJEN has which is for the recirc. It's after the MAF, but it's setup for the stock BPV location. I'd assume, though, that it could be trimmed to connect up to your location. (course I can't tell w/o seeing yours! :D)

ION web site is STILL down. Jezzzz! I would have made you guys 3 web sites by now for FREE! :wtf:

servoeyes - yes that piece would have to be trimmed and hopefully it can bend slightly towards the engine, or you can use a longer piece of Si hose off the BPV to fit it to the charge pipes on the FMIC kit.

II-Savy - would you rather us be working on the website or working on R&D for products? ;) .. there'll be a temp page for Mazda stuff up soon.

^^^Hahaha! Man, I was gonna say the same thing. Car guys do not equal computer guys. We have a new breed in Ion and Spool, etc. so loets be thankful! But honestly...I'd rather you were making the car all it can be, and *then* letting us know! Good work!
