i need to get one for sure....just everytime i get the money its goes to something else haha
but till this day i have found no oil in the pipes at all....probably why

Here's mine at the bottom. It has 'mazdaspeed' engraved on the side which you can't see in the pic. I like it MUCH better than the plastic collant holder. Not sure why they call it a oil catch can cause it only catches coolant. lol You can see the collant passing through it.

I always thought oil catch cans were supposed to catch oil that people running high levels of boost are spitting out...

I have a catch can.. when put in place between the valve cover vent and intake i never saw any oil. Between the PCV valve and the intake manifold, it catches oil.

Knock on wood, my car has never leaked any oil. When I put the catch can in, I didnt see any oil from anywhere. I know its supposed to catch the excess oil, but never saw any to catch??? Oh well. It serves a purpose right where it is and looks pretty good. I dont think it's really needed, more of just an engine dress up.

You can use it on the PCV system to catch oil blow by, or like LaraCroft is as a coolant resovoir tank that looks nicer. :)

Perrin's catch can will work in a Protege if you are still using the stock intake piping. As said above, the PCV circuit seems to be the oil producer on this engine.

Besides engine dress up, the oil catch can collects oil, moisture, and crap that causes sludge and carbon build up in the engine and intake system. Over time you will see the inside on the can fill up, not right away. It is a product that will help the car in the long run.

It can also be used as a coolant resivoir.

it won't catch anything unless you up the boost to like 15 psi.
At higher boost, it will be more suseptible for deposits, that is why I have it in there. Even running stock boost, over time, you will get build up.

mine does not

Just a heads up...there's an old DSM trick you can use to save some cash. You can use and inline fuel filter on that hose from the crankcase back to the intake tract. Even with a really nice filter like the purolater performance ones, it's still only like 10-15$ to do. I did it on my car, and it's great! :)

Here's mine...best thing, NO cutting or modification :) Fits perfect using a stock hole in the car.
