Oh No! Another hesitation thread. I need input.

Yesterday I went down to my Mazda dealer, and talked with my salesman. I know more about the speed than he does, its always been that way. I told him about the hesitation issue and, he had no idea what I was talking about. So ofcourse, I explained it to him. Now heres my dillema. I noticed the new blue msp's came in so I went to check one out. I like it alot. So now its up in the air between the yellow and the blue. But I dont know if I should buy one now, and get the hesitation fix when it comes out (what ever it may be) or wait and buy AFTER mazda fixes it. Is the hesitation dangerous? I mean if I go to gas it, and the car hesitates will someone behind me hit me? does the car buck and put stress on the clutch? Is it noticable to other drivers? Aside from the powerloss itself has anyone ever experienced any danger pertaining to the hesitation? At this point its the final factor thats keeping me from getting the car. All the other problems seem minimal, and easily fixed, but were talking about an ecu here. The car doesnt "go" when you give it gas. Thats a major problem. Basically, Im asking. Should I wait until the fix before I buy? And is this hesitation potentially dangerous? Thanks fellas.

i say just buy it now, running this rich for a short period of time won't kill anything, and the fix seems like it should be out soon. the longer it sits on the lot, the more test drives it gets taken on and probably beaten on, so at least you can baby it while waiting for the fix.

Thats a good point. But it seems based on the other post. The fix is just being finalized now. Mazda now has to approve of the fix. Manufacture it in mass quantities, and distribute it all over the country. Thats gonna take some time. But its definatley a good point about the longer it sits on the lot, the more people trash on em. I saw the way one dude pulled in. Downshifted to 2nd, and let the rpms scream, while the clutch did all the braking. The car was saying "oooooouuuuuuuuuuch!!" Dumbasses....

if you buy the car now, hopefully just around the time the break in period is over the fix will be out, so you'll really be able to start having fun in it!

As far as the danger of the hesitation, a few users have complained about the car STALLING in the middle of a turn. I've never had that happen to me - but it does 'almost' stall on me when sitting at a stop light. So I suppose there is some danger in it technically.

Oh, and the clunk is neither a "minor" issue nor "easily fixed." In fact, NOBODY knows how to fix it yet (permanently)!

you may not even experience it at all or may not have a bad case of it. it seems some cars have it really bad and will stall in corners or at the stoplight, while others just have it going at full throttle before open loop, and, those lucky ones who just don't have it! so i say, just get it, plus, running rich will do you much better than running lean.

I would say buy the blue one when you can...there is not many to be had.....the fix is coming so in the first month or so you baby it and you probably will not notice it

blue= more rare right?

defintely blue. Easier to take care of, easier on the eyes, liked by more people. etc

blue is better

The hesitation for me is just loss of power, like a non turbo car at times, so it's no more dangerous then a stock p5. The stalling issue other people have had, very few mind you, now that's VERY serious. Test drive the car. While stopped, stick the clutch to the floor without moving....stall???? now do the same thing while rolling. stall??? No?, your fine.

The clunk......no comment....f'n thing

I have a hard time recommending MAzda to anyone at this point. in fact, I'm not going to recommend them anymore. not until I actually "See" these "fixes", and they actually work with no other side effects

ECU flashes do not get "manufactured." I had one done on my 99 Dakota R/T when I got the MP computer, it had to have the VIN and odo reading. It took 15 minutes and they only charged me $75. What a deal. But this will be free because it is a warrantee issue, not a upgrade issue. It may take awhile for the program to be distibuted to the dealers, but likely they will not get it unless they have a car that meets the conditions of the TSB. I have had my car in several times now for the hesitation, and stalling, and they had another MSP stall on a test drive. I am sure that they will be getting the flash program soon. I am scheduled to go in next week again, and will respectfully remind them that they need to be on top of this.

Newf - My car stalls, but I can put in the clutch like you suggested and everything is just fine. Sometimes when the car is idling, clutch out, it starts varying in idle from 200 to 1500 rpm and then just dies. Sometimes it does it and corrects itself. Sometimes it just stalls when I come to a stop with the clutch out. I am now running a video camera in my car so the dealer can see it happen, because they "are unable to duplicate customer concern at this time."

ps - buy it, but remember that everyone that has blown up a motor so far was modded. Just wait until the flash comes out to mod. The dealers always have a form that releases them from further "oweings" it says blah, blah, we don't owe anything beyond what is promised here today...like if you get the car and they only have one key, they will write that they owe you a key on this form. I would have them contact Mazda NA and confirn the flash, then buy it contingint on the car being flashed at the soonest opportunity. If the flash is a hoax, which I do not think it is, then legally they broke the contract and have to take the car back.
