OBX Header Problem

Has any one had trouble fiitting the OBX Header to you P5?, i'm having problems at the EGR pipe, the header egr little bolt at the tube will not reach the egr pipe of the engine, some help please.

You got a knock off on ebay for $50 diddnt you... either work at it till you make it fit or take it to an exhaust shop and have them do it

Release the clamp on the driver side end of the engine & leave the bolts loose on the header & try to attach/tighten the egr tube first. If that is impossible then refer to post #2 above.

I tried that and there is no way i can attached the bung to the tube, again it is an obx header fron an authorized OBX Dealer listed on the obx site and is just about 1/4 inch i need help

Nah u don't need egr. Just block off the bung on the header, and put a breather filter on the egr inlet on the intake. Problem solved, and no more nasty gases messing up ur clean intake mani

As long as u put a breathed filter on the intake side and not completely block it off, so the computer doesn't read a "insufficient flow" code ur good to go. Now instead of recircilating exhaust ur inhaling fresh air.

Try connecting the ger tube first then tighten the header.

This is what I did kinda, first I put the header on with 2 bolts to hold it up to the engine block just so I can line up the bottom 2 bolts that connects the header to the exhaust (don't tighten them all the way just enough to hold them on), then I took the 2 bolts from the header/block off and lined it up with the egr tube, it was at an angle but once the egr nut grabbed I pushed the header towards the block put in all the bolts and that was it, make sure you tighten the header bolts evenly, once all of those were tightened I tightened up the egr....hope this helps

Will the filter in question get gummed up like a crankcase breather filter will or is it cleaner?

its gonna be an air filter , filtering air going inside the intake mani THRU the erg valve. what's gonna gum it up? yeah it'll get dusty after a while, like any air filter

Blocking off the egr isnt a great idea IMO. Defeats the whole purpose of the EGR and also introduces more O2 then the stock computers reading thus leaning out your engine. (Could also cause the computer to retard timing).

It looks like Protege Garage does not list any headers for our 3rd Gen BJ P5's, so where can I can an OBX or other cheap header that will fit properly?

I thought the eBay OBX headers don't fit properly, and by the looks of this thread, it's true, right?

Or are you talking about another brand?

My OBX fit EGR with no resistance & oil pan has 3/8 clearance.....but I've had it for 7 1/2 yrs. The 2nd OBX one with a 3rd o2 bung for my wbo2 sensor hasn't been test fit yet but I hope it fits right. Guess I'll find out when I hack my ecu harness to install the piggyback, the FSZE intake, that header, the wbo2/gauge, voltage clamp, etc etc etc. I also have some kind of shiny unused header I got cheap enough for the new manifold gasket and donut that came with it to make it worth buying but it probably fits like the one others are having trouble with.
